@neurodivergentrebel posted, and I of course wrote way more in reply than I’d anticipated. Here it is: Neurotypicals, as well as some NDs, use “directness” as a weapon. I put it in quotes because often it’s not wholly honest or completely false, designed to shock, startle, hurt, manipulate, and such. I find that minority contingent is what often, at least in part, leads neurotypicals to react badly to honesty and directness, what I’ll differentiate by calling it “forthrightness”. It’s part of their social dances, not being direct and figuring the point, whatever it is, is understood without saying, as it were. That said, we not infrequently and quite innocently get into hot water by just being honest anyway. It’s kinda a darn minefield and one that can and does often lead to what others perceive as indecision, introversion, lack of interest because rather than say anything we’ll keep quiet or follow our social survival scripts that neurotypicals don’t understand. — I hope all that made sense. I wrote it all in one breath. #ActuallyAutistic #autism #communication #humans #people #commonproblem

@autie_angel shared this today, and I thought I’d amplify it because these characteristics aren’t often associated with Asperger’s/Autism in pop culture, or if they are, they’re infantilized to varying degrees, as if autism means only childlike, somehow mentally deficient, etc., to which I reply “Nope” and 🙄😡🤬😐 and then “Ugh... people”. #ActuallyAutistic #ShareTheMeme #PassItOn
