We’re down to our final THREE Sketch sessions of the season! 🚨✍🏾✍🏽

Tomorrow, we’re welcoming back @theonlyhudson DJ Moola on the sounds, Victoria Alicea Del Valle @thirteenvicarchive as our guest instructor, and welcoming @patriceanne_ as our guest model for the first time!

The magic happens when we stick around! We encourage you to stay for the full session, get to know the artists, and make room for those little moments of connection that make Sketch so special.

A little housekeeping: Seating is limited, and supplies are available while they last, so come early and settle in with us!

See you tomorrow ✌🏽✌🏾

Congratulations to Miles Perry (@thisisanoriginalworkofart ) on the recent Opening Reception of his mixed-media solo exhibition “I AM”, at Harvard.

I have been a fan of Miles Perry, his work, and deep community connections for some time now. He never fails to use his art, apparel, and voice to ‘give flowers’ to others –to uplift, and amplify the beauty and creativity within us all.

So fitting that he entitled this first solo show, “I AM” which immediately hands the first person “I’ over to his subjects and to the viewer. It was a pleasure to meet Miles and Sophia Dubuisson (@phiaart_ ) at the opening reception and to attend his Artist Talk and panel discussion with special guest Professor Sarah Elizabeth Lewis ( @sarahelizabethlewis1 ), Associate Professor at Harvard University, who opened up the evening with a powerfully personal story reflecting on identity and all we carry with our own unique histories, and the incomparable Dart Adams (@dart_adams ). [Both Sophia Dubuisson and Dart Adams are featured in the exhibit.]

Thank you for this memorable evening 🙌

🍆 IMMACULATE CONCEPTION — THE CLOSING RECEPTION 🍆

Immaculate Conception came, saw, and conquered. 🍆

For the past few months, 18 artists have taken one of the world’s most suggestive fruits and pushed it through religion, history, culture, humor, identity, obsession, and just about everything in between.

The show has been a huge success—and before we put the eggplants away, we’re doing it one more time.

We hope this exhibition has filled your hearts, expanded your minds, stimulated your imaginations… and filled whatever else you needed filled with eggplants. 🍆

But all good things must eventually come to an end.

So come get one last serving.

🍆 One last look.
🍆 One last night.
🍆 One last chance to experience Immaculate Conception in all its glory.

📅 Closing Reception: Friday, October 2
🕗 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM
📍 Black Walls Gallery
71 Lansdowne Street, Boston, MA
🪪 21+ | Valid ID Required

Thank you to everyone who came through and showed love to the exhibition and its artists.

Come help us finish it off. 🍆

I think that last line is the right closer. After “filled whatever else you needed filled,” “one last serving,” and then “finish it off,” there’s basically no way to misunderstand what we’re doing—but technically we haven’t said anything dirty. 😂

There is something deeply beautiful about being in community with people who share a similar definition of what community can be.

Within that kind of community, there is no comparison, competition, or sizing one another up.

There is room for vulnerability, honest relationship, and depth. It is not community performed for an aesthetic, views, clicks, or an algorithm. It is rooted in care, connection, and recognizing the distinct gifts, strengths, stories, and beauty each person brings to the collective.

It has been an honor to be in friendship and conversation with @theartistmiles , both throughout the creation of "I Am" and beyond this project.

I deeply appreciate his creative mind, his love for community, and the way he honors people across diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

I am deeply grateful that Miles saw me, valued my presence, and invited me to be included in the first iteration of "I Am".

This body of work holds so much possibility, and it means a great deal to be part of its beginning.

Being present at Thursday’s @harvardlocal reception, with the panel opened by @sarahelizabethlewis1 and hearing Miles speak about his process, his work, and the people within it, was incredibly special.

Miles sees people. He sees me. He sees us.

It is beautiful to be seen. It is equally beautiful to witness someone you care about being seen in their purpose.

I am so excited to see what unfolds next for Miles and for I Am.

Experience the newest exhibition, I AM by mixed-media artist Miles Perry, at the Harvard Ed Portal Crossings Gallery. The I AM series explores authentic human experiences through layered portraits of people connected to Boston, Allston, and Cambridge, and transforms everyday neighbors who have shaped our city, into powerful works of art.

In celebration of its opening, you're invited to join us on September 17 for an artist reception and talk with special guest Sarah Lewis, Associate Professor at Harvard University who will offer introductory remarks, followed by a conversation with Perry and two community leaders featured in the exhibition, Sophia Dubuisson and Dart Adams.

Check out the link in bio to RSVP and learn more about our programming and free upcoming events!

The artists are from here. The walls are here. The stories are here.

That is Neighborhood Canvas.

What you are seeing now is the foundation before the mural takes shape.

Local artists doing work inside the same community that shaped them.

This is one wall. More Brockton businesses are next.

Art from here.
Made here.
Seen here.

Since spring, we have been piecing Neighborhood Canvas together one decision at a time.

Colors already mapped out.
Supplies in the cart.

Neighborhood Canvas is not just the finished mural you see at the end. It is the planning, the color choices, the conversations, the site visits, and the people putting their hands into the process.

This is what it looks like before the paint hits the wall.

On to the next spot! 💪🏾.

More behind the scenes coming soon.

#weeklyrecap
I know i shouldn’t put so much pressure on myself but I sometimes feel like i am running out of time when in reality time doesn’t timed itself it just runs through it natural course although at times, time doesn’t matter
What matters most is the time we spend along the way with the people that gives you some of their times
Translation in creole: Bay moun ki baw tan, TAN‼️
