Earlier this year, someone went on a blitz and tagged our neighborhood. The police got involved and asked us if we sold spray paint to the person matching the description they gave us from the video footage they obtained.

We did not sell them the spray paint.

We later learned from a customer that it was purchased from a dollar store down the road after the person responsible for the tags had an outburst there and decided to spray paint all over the floor of that store.

The dollar store pulled their spray paint so we started getting that business.

In the meantime, one of the artists in the video at the end gets arrested for painting a mural on what he thought was an abandoned piece of property to beautify it.

So our muralist artist is sitting in jail while the graffiti artists is still out there. Meanwhile, we’re helping our local businesses buy supplies to clean the graffiti off of their buildings.

Shortly after, someone matching the physical description came in with the key part of the description (an accessory) to buy spray paint. The interaction was off and the accessory was there so we felt like this was the person, but we didn’t have proof that it was the guy they were looking for so we couldn’t deny them service because we weren’t certain and could’ve been wrong. So we noted the unique color that was purchased in case we were asked again.

The person was arrested an hour later for tagging in broad daylight.

We’re still helping the business owners clean up their buildings, and now they’re divulging the details of their hearings to us as well as the costs of the damages that were done.

At this point, both the muralist and graffiti artists are out of jail.

The muralist was forgiven and is booked and busy. We do supply him with paint and remind him to bring his tote bag to fill up with paint during our bag sale every first Saturday of the month.

The graffiti artists came in and tried to buy spray paint but was denied service.

We’ve been sharing this spray paint saga in real-time and get asked often if there’s any new spray paint drama. There hasn’t been so we decided to create some last night at a community event.

What better way to celebrate Pride than by making a little more room for queer joy? 🌈

This year, I had the chance to create a mural activation for Cherry Bomb, an incredible Pride event by @hunyrocks that takes over the @tracebrewing alley every year.

I reached out to Huny because I wanted to see this already-amazing event celebrated with a little more color. Events like Cherry Bomb deserve to take up space, and I wanted to contribute a piece of art that helped make the alley feel even more like a place to gather, celebrate, and be exactly who you are.

Safe, joyful spaces like this matter — especially right now.

For Black and brown folks.
For trans folks.
For our incredible community of theys, gays, and everyone in between.

I’m really proud of Huny for continuing to create a space where people can show up, celebrate, and feel at home. Thanks for letting me add a little more color to something that was already pretty fabulous. šŸ’…šŸŒˆ

Pride may be a month, but community is year-round.
