Those moments when nature decides to give us a gift. ✨

A few months ago, I shared a reel of this Ornate Hawk-Eagle as a little chick in its nest. Now, we had the chance to see it again, growing into a beautiful juvenile, with a wilder look and a more intense gaze. (Look those feathers 🪶)

It’s incredible to witness its growth and be part of these special moments. Definitely one of the things I love most about being out in nature. 🤎🦅

Townsend’s Warbler. Blink and you might miss it!

My friend @salvelinus_fontinalis and I clearly very excited about this one!

OK, so these two were totally eyeing me this morning in the backyard, should I be concerned?!?… I figured it was best to not sit too still! 🤣

Not my best photos, but this was a touch & go in my backyard yesterday. Likely attracted by the melee of activity caused by grackles, jays & cardinals at the feeders, this Clay-colored Sparrow eye balled the feeding station for 15-20 seconds before lifting off and disappearing down the road yesterday morning. It was the first cool, fall-like morning and I was out in the yard hoping for migrants. By the time my coffee was gone, I’d digiscoped 22 species of the 34 detected, including this local rarity! It was just the 6th record for my county and become yard bird #189 & counting. A big surprise attempts to relocate proved futile and no subsequent sightings at the feeders (despite checking regularly throughout the day). #kowascoping #rarebird #backyardbirding #yardbird

KING VULTURE / Sarcoramphus papa

I took this clip around 1 pm or so one random day in the backyard. Of course I had my 85mmHD scope back then eith the @phoneskope adapter recently added to my files tools, I was able to observe record and approach this extraordinary species like no other time. The bird was probably taking a long rest after probably soaring for hours in the blue skies of the Osa Peninsula.

Costa Rica has been amazing! It’s only half way through day 2 and our group has seen 150+ species and lots of lifers.

My favorite so far has been the Great Green Macaw which is critically endangered. It was spectacular to see it flying overhead 🙌

Can’t wait to see what else we find! #birds #birding #costaricabirds #birder #birdingcostarica

How to make new friends at a birding festival. Pull out your scope at a popular, crowded hotspot on day one of the fest and excitedly announce, “oh sh**!!! I’ve got a Sabine’s Gull out here…” and then proceed to share scope views of the distant rarity! Many folks enjoyed a lifer by the time I had to go open my booth. The bird was a long way off shore feeding in rips, but I was at least able to get identifiable images of this rare adult gull species! #kowascoping

A quick video of an unexpected Clark’s Nutcracker showing up on Mt Lemon. My fiend, @salvelinus_fontinalis, and I were very excited and very quickly disappointed
