✨Double Shot Thursday ✨ Today, I’m featuring two books that were recommended to me by friends for the 12x12 challenge. I double-dipped and read them for a summer reading bingo challenge sponsored by @alison.is.probably.reading 🐑 Broken Country 🐑 🖊️ By Clare Leslie Hall Beth’s quiet life with her husband Frank begins to unravel when her brother-in-law shoots a dog that has been going after their sheep. This dog belonged to a young boy who turns out to be the son of Gabriel Wolfe, Beth’s first love. With Gabriel’s young son reminding her of the child she lost and a murder shaking their village, Beth is forced to face old feelings, buried secrets, and just how much of her past she’s willing to risk for a second chance. This genre-bending novel was beautifully written. Though some characters blur the moral line, the novel made me think about choices we make. Readers who enjoy books with mystery and history, multiple timelines, and a dash of romance, and you will enjoy this. I enjoyed this tremendously! ———— 📮The Correspondent 📮 🖊️ By Virginia Evans Ask any historian and they will tell you that primary sources are a wonderful way to take a dive into the past. Though fiction, I felt the same way when reading this epistolary novel as the letters and emails give us such an intimate look into Sybil Van Antwerp’s life. Sybil is fond of writing letters, and later emails, to anyone and everyone. Through her correspondence with family, college personnel, and even an employee at a DNA processing center, we get to know Sybil and experience her love, grief, regrets, and growth right alongside her. Evans wrote such a beautiful and emotional story that brought out so many feelings in me. I’m definitely looking forward to reading whatever she writes next. Thank you @mrsharviereads for this rec. First Time Caller by @authorbkborison is the K&D collabs Cover to Cover book club rom-com pick of the month for February. 📻💖🎙️❤️✨ 📻💖🎙️❤️✨ 📻💖🎙️❤️✨ “I like that. Thinking I’m worth paying attention to. Something ordinary made extraordinary by the person you’re sharing it with.” This was a reread for me but I did the audio and dang did I fall in love with it more than I did the first time!! I laughed, I cried, I was swooning. I love Lucie’s family dynamic and her daughter was hilarious. Aiden, that sweet man, fought his feeling for dear life and the way he just let go was just precious. Top Reads of 2025…… F A N T A S Y ✨️ I’m a big fan of fantasy (escapism at its best - which I’m thinking we all probably need right about now 🙃). I read a heap of it growing up and, while I don’t read as much fantasy now as I used to, when I find a good one I’m all in.
