#sundayshelfie on a TUESDAY! Better than 🌮 🌮. Here's why ...

Creators, like me, get excited about a new book release. It's a time to finally celebrate years of work. We're grateful for anyone who shares that excitement, like @picturebookbc 's Nicola does so passionately. The sheer weight of promotional presence around publication time can be overwhelming, for you guys and even us creators. We just want people to love our work, for kids to find our stories. Yet some still question that value, have to validate that expenditure. I get that, especially in current times. Then I happened upon the notion of presenting "your work as an asset to be maximised, rather than an expense to be minimised".

The context was a little different but the message rang the same; to understand true worth, find the true value.

A recent dm request for my latest picture book profoundly reflected this understanding. She wanted the book for a newborn, as part of a collective aim to 'create a ready-made library' for this child. Isn't that something? My heart soared.

This image of me and the beautifully talented @heidicsmithau clutching our latest book baby isn't therefore just another promo moment. It's a reminder that what I does matters. Reading matters. Connections matter. Words matter. Writing and thinking for oneself matters. Laughter matters. STORYTELLING matters. For all those cognitive, neurological, relationship, societal, well-being benefits - picture books matter. And that is something worth maximising, don't you think.

So glad you enjoyed our book @picturebookbc and thanks for the lovely review! 🌟🎵🐦‍⬛🎶 Repost :
"Every day the Great Dawn Choir
greets the morning sun.
Together in the growing light
their voices join as one.
🎶
Did you know the term ‘dawn chorus’ refers to the collective calls of birds at the start of the new day, which sounds very much like a dawn choir?! I did not!
🎶
This beautiful picture book is a celebration of the dawn chorus and the Australia birds that take part every morning, in our part of the world. Some of the birds are songbirds, while others add their calls.
🎶
The magpies take the lead. Ordle! Ordle! Ordle!

The kookaburras laugh, their chuckles travel far Ha! Ha! Ha!

Here come the fairy-wrens, from bush to bush they flitter. Chitter! Chitter! Chitter!
🎶
This book is a wonderful read aloud! So much fun to be had mimicking the bird song and calls - a great way to encourage audience participation and engagement.
🎶
Also what a treat - the beautiful colourful pages! Cindy has created a very special celebration of each choir member. From the textures of the feathers to all the different shades of colour , the birds are so brilliant. I have to mention the delightful endpages! Can you match the feathers with the choir members? Swipe left to have a peek at a sneak peak.
🎶
A very special book, I absolutely adore ‘The Great Dawn Choir’ and can’t wait to share it. A real gem. Recommend for your bookshelves at home and your libraries. Which birds sing in your dawn chorus in your neighbourhood?
🎶
On shelves in Aus, August 1st 2025"

📣PUBLICATION DAY📣

@cindylaneart and I are proud to announce the publication of Oceans At Night.

This glorious book has a time and depth component, which documents some of the amazing things that happens at night while we sleep.

This is an educational book/resource for ages 6-9. Younger minds and bigger kids will also enjoy this book. Lots of biology, ecology, animal adaptations and different marine environments explored.

The animals in this book have been brought to life via the amazing work of Cindy Lane. Her incredible talent has transformed many of the magical things I’ve seen in and on the ocean through artwork. An example of this is glowing dolphins in bioluminescence!

Just in time for World Oceans Day this week and for the arrival of the humpback whales!

Never stop learning!

Napping on the sofa, one sunny afternoon. I was very rudely woken by a slobbering buffoon!
🐱
‘Boss Cat’ is a wonderful and funny new picture book created by @sarahspeedie_author and #TomJellet. I have my own ‘boss cat’ at home called Snoopy so I can relate to the antics of this grumpy and entitled cat!
🐱
Boss Cat is not happy when her family brings home a new puppy, infact she thinks he must be a canine intruder.
🐱
Leaping on her couch during movie night, Aunt Jo-Jo giving this pest HER treats, jumping, chewing, bouncing, yapping , it was too much, she had to show this pup who was boss.
🐱
Tom’s bright, cartoon style illustrations are wonderful and you are guaranteed giggles galore as the ‘Boss Cat’ tries to show the new family addition who rules the roost.
🐱
Full of rhyme , pet antics and fun. I really love this one. A storytime gem.
