Here’s a confirmation of a time being had……I mean my latest dump! 😅 one of the biggest things I’m grateful for is how even though the trials and turbulent moments…..there’s still space to grow, to learn from your community, to still find joy in/with it. 🌸 summer recap 🌸

yesterday’s Yoga + Art Therapy by the lake was such a full-circle moment.

our prompt was to celebrate the progress we’ve made, and then create a bracelet with an anchor word to keep us grounded as we continue moving toward our goals.

my word was DREAM. ✨

and honestly… that word has been FOLLOWING me lately. I pulled an affirmation card with it, I’ve been seeing it everywhere, and even James and the Giant Peach somehow ended up being part of the message 😂🍑 so I’m listening.

This summer has been huge for actually living out some of the dreams I’ve carried for a long time. Building Embodied Resonance, creating community, bringing my workshop ideas into real life, watching people show up for themselves, and seeing all the little pieces of the work I’ve been doing start to become something tangible.

There have definitely been moments of uncertainty, exhaustion, and “wtf am I doing?” lol. But there have also been SO many moments where I’ve looked around and thought… wait. I’m actually doing it. 🥹

I’m creating the kind of spaces I’ve dreamed about. I’m building something that feels like me. And I get to do it alongside some really beautiful humans.

Thankful honestly feels like an understatement.

So here’s to dreaming bigger, celebrating the progress we sometimes forget to notice, and staying anchored in the vision even when we can’t see the whole path yet. 🌱

DREAM.
That’s the word I’m carrying with me. 💗

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pick up a colored pencil.

Yesterday I walked into a yoga and art therapy workshop carrying more than I realized.

A week of holding space for the women in the Rooted Space.

Some unexpected health news about my dog.

That quiet heaviness of wondering if I was doing enough.

I didn't need more instructions. I didn't need a plan.

I needed somewhere to put it all down.

No set instructions. No right way to do it.

Just coloring, drawing, painting, writing, making bracelets, moving your body.

Whatever you felt drawn to.

The movement helped me release something I didn't have words for.

And that was exactly right.

This is what came through on my card.

Vibration.

Evergiving.
Reflection.
Outgoing energy in check.

Unsure of next steps and okay with that.

My body knew what it needed to say before my mind did.

That's what presence does.

It brings you out of the what ifs, out of the worst case scenarios, out of the future you can't control and back into right now.

Which is actually okay.

Chicago is a beautiful city, but within this city.. as much as it is diverse, it is also very segregated.

S4TS exists to bring people of all backgrounds together through music, art, and genuine connection. Our events are a space where you can show up as yourself, dance freely, and — for a few hours — feel completely free. Let’s continue on that mission and create timeless memories.

As a self taught sewist I still sometimes battle with imposter syndrome.

Many are surprised to learn that I didn’t go to school for fashion design, but actually studied fine art (Not so surprising 😝)

As someone that always loved the idea of fashion & style but was so intimidated by the sewing machine I let that hold me back from even starting. It wasn’t until a new friend at the time (@the.thrifted.gay) invited me to participate in his upcoming fashion show that I really dove in.

With that show I created an original 12 look collection called Folk Art Fantasy that was inspired by my rural upbringing, study as a folk artist, & all the ways that could merge with fashion. The rest is history & I haven’t stopped sewing since.

Moral of the story is if there is something you want badly enough, you just need to go for it. Do it scared, do it messy, do it in an amateur way, just do it. You never know what it might unlock.

Thank you to all those who have supported my art on this journey by giving me opportunities in runway shows, commissioned looks from me, used my pieces in photoshoots, helped me to elevate my craft (@sewanastasia 🙏), or even just championed my crazy surreal folksy ideas. I see you & appreciate you. 💛
