Steel on the wrist. Gold beneath the surface. I joined Pierre Biver and the Material Good team in New York for a first look at the Biver AB—the brand’s first watch in steel. The 38mm case frames a dial with a solid 18k 2N gold center beneath black DLC and a polished onyx outer ring, with a gold minute track applied directly to the stone. Inside is Biver’s first hand-wound calibre, the JCB-004, with a PD210 white-gold mainplate and bridges and a 120-hour power reserve—five days. Pull the crown and the small seconds reset to zero. The five-link steel bracelet contains more than 300 components, each finished and assembled by hand. An anthracite calf strap is included, too. Thank you to Pierre and the Material Good team for hosting the reveal. Would you wear the AB every day, or save it for nights out? The manual-wind 38mm x 9.8mm timepiece features a deep black onyx dial with 2N gold laid directly into the stone. Twin barrels in the bespoke Calibre JCB-004 deliver more than 120 hours of power reserve, and each AB is built by a single watchmaker from start to finish. Biver introduces the AB (Acier Biver), its first stainless steel watch and a new chapter for the independent brand founded by Jean-Claude and Pierre Biver. The 38 mm steel case, measuring 9.8 mm thick, frames a multi-level dial crafted from 18k yellow gold, with a black DLC finish and a polished onyx outer ring. A discreet power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock adds a functional detail, while the watch comes on a newly refined steel bracelet with a patented micro-adjustment system. Inside, the JCB-004 calibre, developed with Le Cercle des Horlogers, features bridges and a mainplate made from white gold, two barrels delivering 120 hours of power reserve. __________ (PL) Biver prezentuje model AB (Acier Biver), swój pierwszy zegarek ze stali szlachetnej i kolejny rozdział w historii niezależnej marki założonej przez Jeana-Claude’a i Pierre’a Biver. Stalowa koperta o średnicy 38 mm i grubości 9,8 mm otacza wielopoziomową tarczę wykonaną z 18-karatowego żółtego złota, pokrytą czarną powłoką DLC i uzupełnioną zewnętrznym pierścieniem z polerowanego onyksu. Dyskretny wskaźnik rezerwy chodu na godzinie 12 dodaje całości funkcjonalności, a zegarek wyposażono w nową, udoskonaloną stalową bransoletę z opatentowanym systemem mikroregulacji. W środku pracuje kaliber JCB-004, opracowany we współpracy z Le Cercle des Horlogers, z mostkami i płytą główną wykonanymi z białego złota oraz dwoma bębnami sprężyny zapewniającymi 120 godzin rezerwy chodu. @biverwatches #biverwatches #hautehorlogerie #watchmania #watchcollector #watchfam

Steel changes everything. When we first learned that Biver was developing a watch in steel, we understood immediately that this was not simply a material substitution. It is an entirely different discipline. Where gold yields gracefully to the tool and accepts polish almost willingly, steel resists. It demands tighter tolerances, sharper tooling, and a finishing philosophy of its own to achieve any sense of warmth at all. Today the Maison unveils the AB — 38mm, 9.8mm thin, powered by the brand-new hand-wound calibre JCB-004, delivering over 120 hours of power reserve from a single wind. Five full days of autonomy from a movement slim enough to sit inside a case under ten millimetres. A genuinely difficult equation. But here is what interests us most. With neither the warmth of gold nor the pattern of natural stone to carry the dial, every surface must stand on its own execution. We suspect that is the true challenge the Maison set itself — and the reason the AB matters. It has not yet reached Hong Kong. When it does, you will see it here properly: in hand, under light. Until then — a first look at these three photographs, arriving alongside you from Switzerland this morning. Enquiries welcome at the Lounge. — Biver Lounge, Hong Kong
