Hit my 100th Reformer class here at Club Studio. With all the classes I’ve done here and over the 10 years that I’ve been training with Debi Wheeler (Tall Girl Pilates), it’s probably more like 1,000, but who’s counting? And, yeah, today’s class was pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Jessica and I joined Club Studio, a branch off of LA Fitness, when they opened their very first location near our house. Now, it’s grown to a nationwide brand. They just opened a second location in Irvine that opened today. My Pilates instructor Debi, who I’ve been training with for more than 10 years now, just taught the first class at this new location, so I had to join her in breaking in the new Reformer room. All the equipment had that new car smell. Kinda cool being the first person to use this reformer as well. This studio has 27 reformers in it. It’s twice the size of my regular location because they learned from us. Our classes are always full and they had to build a second reformer room there to accommodate the demand. It’s a great new location in a different part of Irvine that I rarely visit. @clubstudiofitness @tallgirlpilates @pilatesbydebi

SEND this to ALL your tall friends!! Long legs => a blessing and a curse when it comes to Pilates!! Tall girls, ever feel like the reformer springs are fighting you harder than everyone else? You’re not imagining it! Longer legs mean the spring has to stretch further, and that extra stretch means extra resistance 🧬 It’s basic physics, called Hooke’s Law, the more you stretch a spring, the greater the force 💪 So next time your legs are shaking on the reformer, remember, it’s not you, it’s math 🧮

Same exercise. Two bodies. Two unique expressions. Pilates isn’t about trying to make every body look the same. We each bring our own proportions, mobility, strength, and movement history to the work. It simply isn’t to fit the body to the exercise; it’s to build understanding, intention of the movement and allow each body to find its best expression. 🚶‍♀️⚖️ When treating balance and fall risk, we often focus on what we can measure. Berg Balance scores. Timed Up and Go tests. Functional Reach. Single-leg stance time. These assessments are valuable, but they only tell part of the story. What often goes unmeasured is the fear that many individuals experience every day. 😟 Fear of falling can become just as limiting as an actual balance impairment. When someone loses confidence in their ability to move safely, they may begin avoiding activities they once enjoyed: ❌ Walking outdoors ❌ Going to the grocery store ❌ Attending social events ❌ Playing with grandchildren ❌ Traveling ❌ Exercising Over time, reduced activity can lead to deconditioning, social isolation, decreased independence, and an even greater risk of falls. As clinicians, coaches, and movement professionals, our job extends beyond improving test scores. We must help individuals understand their fears, build confidence, and develop practical balance strategies that connect directly to their daily lives. 🧠 Ask meaningful questions. 🏡 Discuss real-world challenges. 🎯 Create exercises that mirror functional goals. 💪 Celebrate small wins that restore confidence. The ultimate goal isn’t simply improving balance on a clinical assessment. It’s helping someone feel confident enough to walk into a crowded restaurant, navigate uneven terrain, carry groceries, or enjoy a family vacation without fear. When treatment addresses both physical capacity and emotional barriers, we move beyond a rehabilitation model and into a true wellness model. Because success isn’t measured only by how well someone performs in the clinic—it’s measured by how fully they participate in life. ❤️ Better confidence. Better movement.
