Thursday night, we did something different.

We’ve thrown a lot of events. Cooked for a lot of rooms. But Thursday wasn’t just an event, it was our story, told through five courses, on our own turf, surrounded by the people who make Virginia’s food scene what it is.

A Seat at the Table. Fully us, Virginia.
We stood shoulder to shoulder with Commune, Love Song, Esoteric, Pilgrim Bread, Chef April Burke, and Pastry Chef Sarah Betcher and together, in partnership with The CROP Foundation and the James Beard Foundation’s Beard at the Beach Culinary Series, we raised money for something bigger than any one of our kitchens.

But here’s the real story: Virginia is culinary. Virginia is cuisine. Virginia is love. We’ve got the farmers, the fishermen, the bakers, the chefs who show up before sunrise and leave after midnight and we’ve got the passion to match anybody putting food on a plate anywhere in this country.

So James Beard, it’s time to see us. See this passion. See what happens when a community stops waiting for permission and just cooks.
We’re ready. We’re here. And we’re just getting started telling this story.

It was an honor to even be in the same building as these folks; making it on the plates was just a bonus.

@yorkiesvb first @beardatthebeach event was spectacular. The passion trivium from farmers, chefs, and event participants was intoxicating. This is exactly the type of collaboration I have dreamed about alongside going full time agriculture.

Virginia is more special than most realize; including locals. What our environment can facilitate makes those that steward it even more special. I am humbled among such giants.

Weather and politics can try to slow us down, but nothing can stop it. Momentum is building. I can’t wait to see the next level of evolution and all the ones that will come after it.

Buckle up and keep supporting all of those that make it possible!
