Apparently Charlotte breweries are also chess clubs, mahjong rooms, puzzle arenas, craft circles, game lounges and yoga studios. A few worth knowing: ♟ Wooden Robot — Charlotte Chess Center First Thursday of the month 🀄 NoDa Brewing — Open Play Mahjong Every Sunday 🎮 Divine Barrel — Wednesday game nights Video games weekly + Queen City Crokinole on select Wednesdays 🧩 Pilot Brewing — Speed Puzzling Last Tuesday of the month 🧶 Petty Thieves — Stitch N’ Bitch Every Wednesday 🧘 Triple C — CLT Yoga Club Every Tuesday, donation-based One of my favorite things about Charlotte’s brewery scene is how many of these spaces have turned into actual community gathering places — even if beer isn’t really your hobby. Schedules and event details can change, so visit the brewery’s website before heading out for current times, registration details and any schedule updates. What other oddly specific Charlotte meetup belongs in the next edition?

Last night, we spent two hours over drinks and conversation at @pilotbrewing —meeting some new faces, catching up with familiar ones, and simply enjoying time together. That’s exactly what “In Good Company” was all about. At NAWBO Charlotte, we want to create more opportunities for our members to connect outside of formal programming. Not every gathering needs a speaker, an agenda, or a packed schedule. Sometimes, the most valuable thing we can offer is simply the space to sit down, talk, laugh, and get to know one another better. Because strong networks are built on strong relationships—and those relationships take time. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved spending the evening with you, and there will be more opportunities like this to come. 💗 #womenbusinessowners #networkingevents #charlottebusinesswomen

💛 Thank you, Charlotte. As we look back on this year’s Charlotte Film Festival, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who showed up, supported us, and helped make the festival possible. To the Patel Family, thank you for your incredible support and belief in what we’re building. The Charlotte Film Festival is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). We’re deeply grateful for that support and for the opportunity to continue bringing independent film and filmmakers to our community. A special thank you to Andy Print Shop for printing our wonderful festival programs and Diaries—beautiful keepsakes for our filmmakers to take home and remember their festival experience. @andyprintsstuff Thank you to @trueopt for bringing the music, and good vibes, and for helping us with our festival merchandise. To our venue partners and hotel partners, thank you for welcoming our filmmakers, audiences, and festival community with such generosity. A huge shoutout to our media partners @positivelyclt and local businesses who helped us spread the word, amplify filmmakers’ stories, and connect the festival with the Charlotte community. To our Filmmaker Experience Sponsors, thank you for helping us create an experience that goes beyond the screenings and makes our filmmakers feel truly welcomed and celebrated. And to every single person who supported the festival—whether you donated during the festival, bought a ticket, saw a movie, grabbed a concession, shared a post, told a friend, followed along, or simply showed up—we see you, and we appreciate you. ❤️ A film festival doesn’t happen without a community behind it. Thank you for being ours. 🎬✨ Until next time, Charlotte. 💛 #CharlotteFilmFestival #CharlotteNC #IndependentFilm #FilmCommunity #SupportLocalFilm

Local Agriculture, Handcrafted, Simplicity Carolina Malt House, in Cleveland, NC, provides malt made from only locally grown grain to regional breweries and distilleries. Founder Aaron Goss hired me to design new marketing materials targeting craft beer consumers. To do that effectively, I created a visual identity that clearly communicated their personality and point of view. The colors and geometric illustrations are inspired by their barn quilt, a type of folk art brought to the US by Swiss and German immigrants and personal to Aaron’s heritage. The font complements the logo that was made by a linocut artist. The texture on the illustrations alludes to the handcrafted nature of linocut prints as well as the dust created from working with grain. The messaging needed to speak to a variety of craft beer consumers: local and traveling visitors of all the breweries that use Carolina Malt. So the answer was a few clear, concise phrases that explain why beer drinkers should care whether breweries use their malt. “Real Southern Beer. Grown in NC.” “Fresh Malt Makes Better Tasting Beer” To complete the package, I created seals that Carolina Malt House and breweries can use for cross-promotion. Altogether, these elements communicate that Carolina Malt House cares deeply about local agriculture and the simplicity of appreciating handcrafted quality. #graphicdesigner #visualidentitydesign #craftmalt #ncbeer #ashevillebeer #ncagriculture #ashevillebusinessowner #womanownedbusiness
