LONDON | me and little man took an adventure on the train to #London yesterday to meet some new people,
See some art and take in the sights / well… him barely! Lovely to catch up with @wildeterence, @lisharoon and @roolutoo. We were both pretty wiped out by the end!

Toor’s exhibition focuses on Salman Toor’s exploration of human interactions and the desire and struggle to experience a sense of belonging, both culturally and emotionally. Toor speaks of the roundish, clownish nose that often features as a marker of vulnerability.

‘Audrey Amiss: The Surviving Exhibitions’ is the first museum exhibition dedicated to artist Audrey Amiss (1933–2013). Bringing together drawings, paintings and other exhibition materials, it explores Amiss’s work as both an artist and campaigner, revealing how she used her art to speak out against harmful treatment within the mental health system. We loved the touch panels!

‘Rudy Loewe: Intimacies of Care – Spaces of Grief and Possibility’ reimagines a mental healthcare system that is equitable and supportive. Through a network of sculptures, paintings, text-based work and sound, our new exhibition by Rudy Loewe centres the lived experience of Black people whose mental healthcare in the UK is shaped by racist discrimination. The works ask us to consider more hopeful, empathetic, alternative approaches to care. @wildeterence and I spoke in depth through the double sided colourful work depicting what actually happens with the system vs what people dream of with the system / and I’m sure many can relate to this.

Sofia Bassi is a fascinating artist and a contemporary of Leonora Carrington (which you can clearly see). Interested in esoteric knowledge and a personal spiritual iconography, Bassi’s paintings exist as windows into memory, mythology, fear, desire, desire and the vast territories of the subconscious. Definitely one to see, and there’s a lift to get upstairs.

#jacquelinedejong ‘s “De l’humour Belge (Belgian humor),” 1965, which will be on view in @pippyhouldsworth ‘s booth at @frieze.london beginning on October 14, 2026 in #london . The work is part of Jacqueline’s the "Accidental" paintings series, which she made in of 1964 and 1965. These works feature collisions of bodies and vehicles, which accounts for the bicycle tangled among the grotesque figures in this painting. The work has been exhibited at @wiels_brussels @rijksmuseum @durstbrittmayhew @warehousedallas @jacquelinedejongfoundation

Straight from the Venice Biennale, our focus shifted to Basel early last week, ahead of the official opening of arguably the most important art week of the year.

For those who view travel through a cultural lens, the world’s most important art events and the discovery of beautiful new hotels are inseparable. One informs the other.

Art Basel once again united the international art world, with over 290 premier galleries presenting works by more than 4,000 artists. This year, the overarching theme belonged to ambitious, large-scale installations and long-hidden postwar masterpieces.

A few definitive standouts we were tracking:

Münsterplatz: Ibrahim Mahama completely transformed the historic cathedral square with his installation, using salvaged material and rubber sourced from a defunct Ghanaian factory.

The Main Entrance: Nairy Baghramian’s abstract sculptural assembly dominated the fair’s arrival square, playing with the boundaries of physical space.

Unlimited: Curator Ruba Katrib’s debut offered a unique platform for large-scale projects, featuring 59 monumental installations.

On the main floor, we particularly looked forward to presentations by Pippy Houldsworth, Pace Gallery, and Lisson Gallery, as well as works by Anicka Yi and June Crespo.
