Save the date:

Artist duo @julienneirynckmayamertens transforms @pizzagalleryspace into RATTENSHOW. Taking their movie Les Rats that was shot in Paris in the winter of 2024 as igniter of their second performance-expo, they gather performing and visual artist to spin off to a universe that investigates ‘the crack’. With ‘Rattenshow’ the gallery becomes a temporary territory - a space that can be occupied, contaminated, used, and reinterpreted.

Selected artists will be announced next week.

Opening night: Fri Nov 27.
Expo: Nov 28 - Dec 13.

Shelf Life on view until 25/10 @pizzagalleryspace
Come say hi!

“A fictional assemblage of fragmentary realness, she emerges in a temporal slippage, in a space of her own creation, tied together with the threads of connection and isolation. She thinks through literature and narrative fiction, with pictorial gestures unfolding from her hands as abstract storytelling, fragments of moods and temporalities. She love-hates language, the shapes and aesthetic aspects of the written word, how it triggers a different perception, emerging from the abstract, perhaps, just that bit too clearly for the feelings to remain comfortably ambiguous. I stand before her door-shaped paintings as thresholds between physical and mental spaces, locating myself at the centre of her enclosed system of relations.”

Pizza Gallery presents ‘Shelf Life’, the second solo presentation by Emma Verhulst at their Antwerp location. ‘Shelf Life’ refers to the length of time that a commodity may be stored before it degrades, an expiration date but also refers to a domestic life, the architecture of the home.

@emma.verhulst bases her work on observations, photographs and found footage. An initial drawing serves as the starting point for an intuitive, associative and cumulative process. From these drawings and collages emerges a fragmented narrative and a graphic thread that links the paintings together.

Her visual language evokes a familiar yet simultaneously alienating universe. Contradictory feelings and situations – such as discomfort and comfort, isolation and connection, and the public and the private – play a significant role. The work ultimately expresses an inability: the inevitable lack of absolute grammar and perfect agreement.

Shelf Life by @emma.verhulst will be on view @pizzagalleryspace until October 25.

This Friday we will open at 20:00 for the ‘housewarming’ of Kunsthal Gent as a 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲. At 21:00 we will launch the 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀.

The fund is established in collaboration with Patty Delanghe. Like the temporary workspace it stems from the simple, shared conviction that 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

As a tribute to her daughter Louise Delanghe (1994–2025) and as a vote of confidence in young trailblazers, Patty and the fund offer a helping hand to those who are still exploring, experimenting, and growing.
