The oldest country club in america is hiding one of tillinghast's best.

Philadelphia cricket club has been around since 1854 and still pulls the entire pga tour through its gates, rory mcilroy and sepp straka included this past year.

Some places just never lose it.

Sitting on the edge of lake washington, in a seattle neighborhood so private most locals have never seen past the entrance.

A.V. macan built this one back in 1927 and it hasn't needed to change much since. Under 6,500 yards. . . which sounds short until the fairways start bending through the trees and every approach has to land in exactly the right spot.

Nicklaus won here at 22.
Couples once went around in 59.

Places like this don't take reservations, you either know someone, or you don't.

You'll probably never play here, and that's kind of the whole allure. . .

Canyata has been a golf digest top 100 course since 2009, tucked onto a private family farm in the middle of rural Illinois.

Getting on is famously hard and famously expensive, so most golfers only ever see this place in photos like this one.

would you play it if you got the chance? 👇

A baseball team’s nearsighted players gave Myopia its name.

The players chose the name for a match against Lexington in July 1876 and put it in black letters on a red banner. Golf came later. When Herbert Leeds rebuilt the course in 1896, he turned old stone walls into grass-covered mounds, giving the property’s existing materials a new life as hazards.

Troy Burne is one of those courses I always enjoy getting back to.

I’ve played it a number of times with friends, and there’s something about the layout that keeps me coming back. Great holes, plenty of variety, and just a fun course to spend a day on — whether I have a camera in hand or I’m just out playing.

I’m hoping to make it back to Hudson before the golf season is over. Until then, here are a few photos from some of my rounds at Troy Burne. A mix of the course, the views, and a little golf with good friends.

Hudson National’s first Met Amateur winner also spent three summers working there as a caddie. Johnson Wagner’s connection to the club went well beyond the championship he won in 2001.

Behind the mark are a lost clubhouse beside the fourth hole, a course that required dynamite on every hole, and a tournament finish where two putts would win but the player wanted one. Fazio’s return in 2024 brought the longest hitters back into a conversation with the bunkers.

Gulph Mills once considered leaving its Donald Ross course. In member Tom Paul’s account, the proposed move ended over a golf hole that would cut cattle off from their pasture.

Behind the mark are a rejected land purchase that led to a new Club and a competition where a tie for last place was settled with dice. The prize was a bar of soap, with a pointed invitation to clean up their game.
