5 of our Favourite Books From Our Studio Bookshelf

At Platylobium Landscape Design, we’re always flipping through pages for inspiration. Here are five titles that never leave arm’s reach:

🌿 Smaller Eucalypts for Planting in Australia — Dean Nicolle
The go-to reference when a client wants “a gum tree” but doesn’t have the space for a giant. Nicolle’s guide to selection, cultivation and management is perfect for finding the right-sized eucalypt for smaller gardens and courtyards.

🌾 Garden Park Community Farm — Nelson Byrd Woltz
A gorgeous look at the work of landscape architects Warren T. Byrd Jr. and Thomas L. Woltz. We love this one for the way it blurs the line between designed landscape and working land — big inspiration for anyone thinking beyond the ornamental garden.

🌸 500 Plants — Angus Stewart
From the Gardening Australia favourite himself. A brilliant, browsable directory of Australian natives for the home garden — always our first stop when brainstorming plant palettes for a new project.

🌳 Native: Art and Design with Australian Plants — Kate Herd & Jela Ivankovic-Waters
Award-winning and for good reason. This book shows just how sculptural and sophisticated native planting design can be — proof that “native garden” doesn’t mean “wild and untamed” unless you want it to.

🌼 Bush Flowers — Cassandra Hamilton & Michael Pavlou
Less about the garden bed, more about what comes out of it. A stunning look at Australian flowers and foliage in floral design — we love pulling this out when clients want cut-flower gardens or want their planting to double as arrangement material.
