Chill day in Silverlake with Vinny visiting my new favorite nursery: Plant Material & of course, I never need an excuse for coffee! 🌱☕️ Plant Material curates a good variety of speciality citrus, native plants, & interesting tools! I wanted to get some pots, but held back today and got three citrus trees (which is what I was looking for) and a native plant as a gift! 🪴 The citrus trees I ended up getting are: - Improved Meyer Lemon 🍋 - Kiefer Limes 🍋‍🟩 - Owari Satsuma Mandarin 🍊 They had very many other interesting citrus tree options such as a Yuzu Lime, Honey Mandarin, & Fukumoto Oranges! But I only have so much space & capacity so I definitely picked based on practicality & can’t go wrong basis, but one day my little citrus orchard shall grow! 💁🏻‍♀️ I’m always so happy when I take Vinny out because he’s truly my bestie & I do my best to never take him for granted. I can tell he really enjoys going out like we did when he was younger. He now loves having his stroller as an option & I’m grateful for his company today.

Do you do this too? Is it just me or do you also start planning your weekends on Monday? There’s a place you’ve driven by a hundred times and never noticed where you can be surrounded by native plants, cool neighbors, and easily forget you’re right in the heart of Glassell Park. They have beautiful tools, gardening hats, and trinkets and wares great for gifting to loved ones or to yourself. Get your coffee and breakfast at Bub and Gram’s on Eagle Rock Blvd and walk over to Plant Material. Save this post for this weekend’s plans and check out @plant_material in Glassell Park. #glassellpark #weekendplanssorted #californianativeplants #neighborhoodspotlight #localvendor

It was so much fun to collab with @gabriella.coati to fill the @waltdisneyconcerthall stage with plant material for a night of natural musical wonder. This @laphil Green Umbrella concert capped off our 26/27 season and was truly a family affair as my kids and friends helped collect plant instruments from all around SoCal. 🌵 🎶 🌺 🎶 🍂🎶🌾🎶🎋🎶🪾🎶🫚 Anchoring the first half of the night was Smith’s duo set with her best bud, cellist @starbuckcello. This was a deep meditation on the environment built through layers of looped electronics, acoustic instruments, and vocals. 🎻🎛️ For John Cage’s Branches, a spatialized ensemble of seven musicians played amplified cacti, seed pods, and other plant material foraged from across the community. Shout out to @terremoto_landscape @plant_material @rostenwoo and @treepeople_org for the 🌿 support. The incredible conductor @mollyxiuturner was at the podium as LA-based composer and jazz pianist @billychildspiano expanded upon Smith’s natural themes with My Roots Spread Far and Wide, paying homage to the giant sequoia tree with energetic rhythms from his trio (@chimyonthebass @christianeuman) and lush harmonics from the LA Phil New Music Group strings. 🌲 The concert also featured a solo cello live written as a birthday gift from Gabriella for Gabriela and two new additions to the LA Phil Etudes series including a piece for two bass drums written by @michaelgordon481 for principal percussionist @matthoward_percussion and @esapekkasalonen.official’s bassoon etude brought to life by our own @kuhlbassoon. 🥁 Huge gratitude to @jameslemkin for helping support and shape the program and to Tree People for being on site to help connect the audience with volunteer opportunities to make our city greener. 🌳 First batch of 📸 by @scottkenji for LA Phil.
