Energy for Liberation

⏰Saturday 26 September 2026, 5-8pm
📍Forgan Arts Centre, Newport on Tay

⚡️Join an evening of film, talks, food and conversation about oil, energy and activism in Palestine, Scotland and beyond.

🎬As part of @falastinfilmfest, watch Razan Al-Salah’s experimental film ’A Stone’s Throw‘, which explores an emotional and material proximity between the extraction of oil and labour and the Zionist colonisation of Palestine.

💬Contributions from @platform1983, @foescot, and @energyembargoforpalestine will guide a conversation to help us link Scotland’s oil stories with the political and historical narratives we encounter in the film.

🍽️Our discussion will be fueled by a delicious mezze platter of vegan and halal dishes, cooked for us by @iraqithistle, who lovingly fuse Iraqi and Middle Eastern flavours with Scottish produce.

🎟️Tickets available at www.falastinfilmfest.com ; £5/10/15 (Sliding scale)

🙌 Thank you to @forgan_arts_centre for hosting and supporting this event to happen.

Energy for Liberation is part of @falastinfilmfest in Dundee & North East Fife from 24-27 September. Celebrate Palestinian cinema and culture in a programme of films, talks, workshops and performance co-curated by @artsworkersforpalestinedundee.

The transition from fossil fuels should be an opportunity for a better society, but right now we're just transitioning from one set of corporate beneficiaries to another.

It's time to change that. Go to the link in our bio and tell your MSPs it's Our Power. ⚡️ A person stands on a stone platform, holding a microphone and a booklet titled "Our Energy." They are speaking outdoors, dressed in a red jacket. A quote is displayed in the image, referencing the transition to renewable energy, mentioning jobs, cheaper energy, and income from electricity generation to improve public finances. The quote is attributed to Connor Watt from Platform.

👋 Hi, we are Counter Balance!
A non-profit organisation based in Brussels.

Our three staff members care deeply about climate change and inequalities and work with nine civil society organisations across Europe.

What do we work on? We focus on the European Investment Bank. We think this public bank could transform our societies to make them greener and more just.

We also look at EU investment programs related to the EIB and the environmental and social impact of Export Credit Agencies.

How do we work? We research and write reports, we talk to decision-makers and we campaign for the public to help us put pressure on European public banks. 🌱✊

Follow along to discover who we are, what we do, and why public finance matters.

☀️ Solar energy is cheap to produce - but you're not seeing the benefit reflected in your bills

In fact, bills are about to RISE 🤔

The climate crisis is a working class and trade union issue that cannot wait

For World Environment Day, I've written this article for Labour Hub that looks at the impact on of the climate crisis on working people and surveys the key organisations campaigning on this.

🟢NEW: A new report from the Centre for Local Economies shows that private wind farm owners are making billions while our communities are getting crumbs.

We need the Scottish government to take bold action and promote community-owned energy everywhere!

Fuel poverty isn't just about struggling to afford heating in winter - it means being more exposed to dangerous temperatures in summer 🥵

With extreme temperatures becoming more common, we need to distribute energy fairly so we can all afford to keep cool #EnergyForAll #MakeGreenFair

We also need to:
✂ cut our dependence on fossil fuels, which drive climate change and keep bills high
🌞 share the benefits of cheap-to-produce solar energy by expanding access to plug-in solar AND batteries for flats and renters

The End Fuel Poverty Coalition is raising awareness of the dangers we face in high temperatures when we're struggling to pay our energy bills:

“There are around 4.5 million adults who have been made unwell by overheating in their homes and they are not people who can simply open a window or switch on the air conditioning.

“The Climate Change Committee recently warned that 92% of existing homes could overheat in more extreme heat events, and that the poorest neighbourhoods are seven times more likely to be vulnerable.

“We need coordinated action to upgrade homes for all seasons, not just winter. That means proper insulation, ventilation and passive cooling upgrades, alongside electricity pricing reform to bring down the cost of running fans and other equipment."

We'd add that home improvements need to be accountable to residents, have built-in protections against 'retroviction', and include a bill saving guarantee.

We live in a world where we're far too isolated and dependent on big corporations for basic things. Community-owned energy can help make our towns and cities more inter-connected.

Ready for some more community energy 101? By owning renewables directly, we can make a lot of money and a lot of opportunities for our communities!
