Playtime with Semi-Circle

Never done this with one leg until today, not sure I would do it often, as I prefer the original, but was fun to try it!

Muscles and ROM ⬇️

One of the best things about Pilates is that it takes muscles through various ranges of motion and requires control in both concentric and eccentric loading.

Muscles need to be able contract and lengthen under load, not only to control the reformer but to train the individual to control their own movement.

It not only fills a strength gap, but also an extensibility gap: the difference between mobility vs. flexibility. Someone who is flexible may not be able to get themselves into a position without gravity or an outside force putting them into that position. Whereas mobility, is the range of motion that the individual can generate on their own.

To make sure you’re training that during your Pilates session: make sure there is never a time when the reformer’s carriage passively rolls back to the stopper. Another way you would see it, is if there’s slack in the straps or someone is passively getting pulled up/around/etc by the straps. If they are, then they’re likely missing the eccentric portion of the exercise… basically missing half the exercise and we don’t want you to miss out on the good stuff 🙃
