It was an honor to unite with civic leaders from across Marin at the @strivetogether conference in Baltimore this week. We led a panel discussion on our progress in creating a Promise Neighborhood in the Canal, and met with national partners to let them know about our vision for neighborhood-based partnerships in Marin City, Novato, and West Marin. The 7am start time to each day was challenging for us West Coasters experiencing jet lag, but we powered through and we were uplifted by being surrounded by 700 people who believe we can change the world by focusing on kids and designing a cross-sector system that gives all of them the opportunity to succeed. Field leader Elson Nash reminded us that though our work focuses on the next generation, it also honors ancestors. Given that we are in the midst of our 250th anniversary as a nation, it was noted by StriveTogether CEO Jennifer Blatz that our work of strengthening local partnerships and civic engagement in pursuit of common goals is also strengthening democracy. We also got a chance to get out and see Baltimore, a city rich in heritage, culture, and community pride. Special shout out to Chef Jasmine Norton @theurbanoyster, who created a special restaurant with amazing food and immaculate vibes. Everything was so good the Marin team broke into spontaneous song. We got healthier together. We got better together. 🙌 What an amazing Saturday at Hot Yoga Republic! Our signature 30 minute cardio strength training workout followed by one hour of hot yoga. A morning to sweat, connect, and feel good about ourselves while raising money for Play Marin, right here in our community. Grateful for everyone who came out to get fit together and for Upside Coffee serving up drinks afterward. We enjoyed every minute. Great job, everybody! Keep that connection going this week. Congratulations to our U13 Boys Panthers for winning the 2026 Apple 🍏 Classic Tourney yesterday. They worked hard going undefeated in their first tournament of the season and had a fun weekend playing as a team to secure the win. We’re so proud of all the boys, the parents cheering them on and coach William for leading them to a well deserved victory….Go Panthers!!!⚽️🏆🫶🍏❤️

Emory Douglas: Artist, Revolutionary, Voice of the People October 8, 2026, 5-8 p.m. College of Marin 835 College Ave. Kentfield, CA Center for Student Success, Room 200 Join us to honor and celebrate the prolific art, revolutionary spirit, and ongoing social justice work of world-renowned graphic artist Dr. Emory Douglas upon the opening of his permanent collection at the College of Marin. The evening will feature speakers, live music, refreshments, and an opportunity to view the collection. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Emory Douglas is the Veteran Revolutionary Artist and Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party. His iconic artwork, which appeared on the covers and pages of the Black Panther Newspaper, was the visual mouthpiece and cultural aesthetic of Black Panther Party, its politics, and programs. Dr. Douglas is a working artist who continues to create powerful political art that reflects the urgency of global struggles for social justice and serves as an inspiring call for solidarity, resistance, and liberation among oppressed and colonized peoples around the world. Dr. Douglas’s art has been exhibited in galleries around the world, including the October 2023 exhibit The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas: Black Liberation, Global Justice at the College of Marin Fine Arts Gallery. Emory Douglas’s work at the College of Marin will be the first and only permanent exhibition of his work in the world.
