PILATES & PREGNANCY 🤰
(Part 1)

Happy Friday from Sydney! Today, I am joining the lovely @lisakayepilates 💕 in #fitballfriday and @cb.fitpilates 💕 in #pilatesfitballmagic

I taught a Pilates & Pregnancy 🤰 Workshop last weekend and promised my students, I would do some posts for them. These are classic exercises using a fitball and light weights. I love how the fitball supports and challenges my clients, all at the same time! #pilatesismagic

1. Front raise with squat
2. Lateral raise with squat
3. Arm circles in both directions with squat
4. Bicep curls into shoulder press with squat
5. Open elbows with squat pulses
6. Horizontal arm scissors with squat pulses

If a client is not comfortable in this position, please get them to sit on the ball instead. Depending on the weight, I recommend 10 - 15 reps of each, in a smooth and controlled manner.

Sending much love to our beautiful #pilatescommunity and these gorgeous babes 💕

Another shot of yesterday’s #pilates learning experience. Beautiful shot of the pike. Not an easy move at all.

How can we take refuge and find solace in our bodies? .

How can our bodies be a source of support, fuel, and steadiness? .

This is what we’re bringing forth in this week’s Daily Resilience Practice. .

I know you're going to love our exploration of REFUGE -- looking at and feeling the body as a place of refuge. It brings so many of our themes together: connection, yielding, safety, listening, choice, friendliness... .

Our password this week is REFUGE. Get all the details for jumping into the class using the link in the bio. .

You don’t have to show up live. Replays of all the practices can be sent to you should you miss a day. Jump in any day unannounced. No need to register in advance. ❤️❤️

The current fallacy: Learning more tools is enough to get you through the current situation and support you in a thriving teaching career on the other side of this, whatever that terrain looks like...we just don’t know.⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
The remedy: Positive emotional reciprocity, which is NOT a vagal tool to WIELD but rather a way of BEING in relationship, when understood, imparts wisdom onto every interaction. And above all else teaching is relational. ⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
Rec·i·proc·i·ty -- is the quality or state of being reciprocal : mutual dependence, action, or influence.⁣
⁣
⁣ “Teaching is a human cognitive skill that develops over the course of our lifespan. And at the heart of it all, teaching is neither an independent act nor merely a tool. It is an interaction between a learner (or many learners) and a teacher. But each one of those understandings runs counter to how we currently think about and evaluate teaching.” ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣
The Teaching Brain by Vanessa Rodriguez⁣ ⁣ ⁣
⁣
According to a recent survey of nearly 1000 Pilates teachers: ⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
The greatest challenges they’re facing “are financial (70%), ⁣
followed next by stress and anxiety (40%).” ⁣
⁣ ⁣ ⁣
⁣Reciprocity WILL give you the foundation you need to become more financially stable in this incredibly unstable time. ⁣
⁣ ⁣ ⁣
Developing and focusing on reciprocity IS what will reduce your stress and anxiety, AND allow you to integrate your long-term and new knowledge in the most impactful way. ⁣
⁣ ⁣ ⁣
We launch our fourth Mini Master’s Course on cueing, this Tuesday, May 19th via Zoom (11:15 am - 12:45 pm PST) ⁣
⁣ ⁣
Engaging, Exacting, Effortless Cueing for Virtual Teaching + Social Distancing⁣
⁣ ⁣
What does cueing have to do with reciprocity?⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
The question is more like: what does reciprocity have to do with cueing? ⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
It’s akin to asking the question: what does hearing have to do with listening?⁣
⁣ ⁣
⁣
Our ability to truly meet our students is rooted in getting quiet, paying attention in different ways, shifting our expectations, allowing ourselves to be wrong and step into the role of objective observer. This is listening.
Join us live or watch the recording later. Link in bio ❤️
