⭐️ AN AUDIENCE WITH QUEEN VICTORIA - Review (PR GIFTED)⭐️

“I was invited along to An Audience with Queen Victoria at Wolverton Market Hall, and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this.

Stepping into a hushed room with Queen Victoria waiting to tell us about her life, family and years on the throne was such a brilliant way to spend an evening.

Rosemary Hill’s research is incredible, bringing so much detail to this one-woman performance and making Victorian history genuinely fascinating.

Being invited to ask questions opened up the conversation and gave us the chance to discover much more about Queen Victoria, her family and life as a monarch.

There was plenty of laughter along the way, with a wonderful sense of humour coming through alongside the more serious and poignant moments.

The atmosphere in the room was quite remarkable. The performance was so immersive that at times it genuinely felt as though we were sitting in the presence of Queen Victoria herself. There was a real sense of being transported back in history, with the audience completely captivated.

I’m a huge fan of Rosemary’s work and would highly recommend seeing her performances. If you enjoy history, theatre, live performance or discovering something a little different to do in Milton Keynes, this is well worth looking out for.

It was also lovely to see such a historic building being brought to life again as a new arts and cultural venue. Market Hall itself dates back to 1887, the same year as Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, making this feel like a particularly fitting way to open its new chapter. Hopefully, this is the first of many glorious live performances to take place here.”

We had this wonderful review from last night- the first performance to take place at the newly renovated Market Hall!

As apart of our Heritage Open Day event, we were treated as Rosemary Hill gave us a taster of her as Queen Victoria last Sunday. The Queen mingled with the public, was amused by the activities and even met MP Chris Curtis!

Rosemary Hill returns to Market Hall this Friday and Saturday with her production “An Audience with Queen Victoria” in which we are transported back to the year of 1887, her Golden Jubilee, she will reflect upon her last 50 years on the throne and answer the floor up to questions from her public.

Tickets are still available from the below link:

Be sure to grab yours to be apart of the first audience for a theatrical performance at Market Hall

In a week we will be opening our doors to the public for the first performance here at Market Hall! We’re honoured to have Rosemary Hill bring her “Audience with Queen Victoria” - Rather fitting for a building opened during her reign, she even referred to Wolverton as “A charming little red brick town” whilst on a visit!

“It’s 1887 and the year of my Golden Jubilee and fifty years since I came to the throne as a young girl of eighteen. Please do come and spend the evening with me and hear all about the last fifty years. There have been many happy memories and great successes, but also sadness. You can ask me questions too and I shall endeavour to answer honestly.”

Rosemary Hill from The Play’s The Thing Theatre Company graces the stage to provide a wonderful evening (two, actually) to open Market Hall, the new arts and cultural venue in Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

So we invite you to come, take a step back in time and enjoy a wonderful evening with her highness in this exciting new space.

Aging lace using tea! This lace was way too ‘white’ so aged it up with a good cup of tea! I’m sure Miss Haversham will approve, aka @playsthething

Step inside the crumbling world of Satis House this June with An Encounter with Miss Havisham with a hauntingly immersive theatrical experience that brings one of Charles Dickens’ most unforgettable characters vividly to life.

Frozen in time, dressed in her faded wedding gown and surrounded by clocks forever stopped at twenty to nine, Miss Havisham invites audiences into her tragic story of heartbreak, bitterness, and revenge.

This powerful monologue explores the pain of a woman abandoned at the altar, the twisted hopes she placed upon Estella and the emotional scars that shaped her cruel treatment of Pip in Great Expectations.

But this is more than a performance, after the monologue, the audience is given the rare chance to question Miss Havisham herself. Ask about her lost love, her decaying wedding feast, her motives or the life she has chosen to preserve among the shadows of Satis House.

No two evenings are ever quite the same.

With a rich Gothic atmosphere and compelling character portrayal, this is an unforgettable opportunity to meet one of literature’s most fascinating and formidable women face to face.

📍 Miss Havisham's Tea Rooms
Stony Stratford
🗓️ 6th June – 14th June 2026
➕ Additional performance: Thursday 11th June

CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT

Danny Solomon as Jamie, oldest son of the Tyrone family, based on O’Neill’s much loved brother.

“Remember doctor’s orders. Maybe no one else gives a damn if you die, but I do. My kid brother. I love your guts, kid. Everything else is gone. You’re all I’ve got left.”

Danny is no stranger to #ElysiumTC. He’s one of our founding members of #ElysiumTC and his played leads in nearly all of our productions - Macbeth, Iago, Oberon, Torvald Helmer, Angel Cruz and many others. Playing Jamie has been a long term ambition for him so we are thrilled to have him in the company.

Eugene O’Neill’s masterpiece tours the North this May. Don’t miss it!
