🎶We participated for the first time in the worldwide Play Music on the Porch Day last Saturday with a lovely group of musicians and community members who joined in on the Kellogg House porch for a jam session and sing along with Peggy @plcookooleilei from @ukulele_soup_orange!

💃🏻HMOC had a community outreach day joining others with our booth to celebrate Chicano Heritage Day at the @cityofsantaana festival

🇺🇸And we watched the festivities and talked to the public from our HMOC booth at the @cityofhb Civil War Days!

🎶🎸🎺🎻Grab your instruments and let’s make music! Mark your calendars to come jam on the porch of the historic Victorian 1898 Kellogg House at HMOC and participate in the 10th anniversary of the worldwide phenomena of “Play Music On The Porch Day” Saturday August 31st!

Musicians from across the globe, regardless of their differences, are finding common ground through music.

Play Music On The Porch Day knows that music is powerful and universal. It doesn’t matter if you play an Oud, a Guitarrón, a Nyckelharpa, or a Guitar. When you pick up your instrument and start to play the world disappears and you get lost in the sounds.

Music goes beyond words. It can transcend the most difficult barriers. It ties us together like a thread through our hearts. Our skin is many colors but music is in our blood, our bones and our soul.

On the 31st we welcome you to bring your acoustic instrument(s) of your choice and join in this community jam session! This special event is FREE with HMOC Public Hours admission and includes the Kellogg House tour and access to our 12 acre grounds!

EMAIL LEAF BLOWER BAN COMMENTS TO CITY OF ORANGE BY 5PM: ccpubliccomment@cityoforange.org

Feel free to cut & paste our letter.

Public Comments: Leaf Blower Ban

February 14, 2023
Dear Mayor and City Council,

It is recommended that leaf blowers be banned in the City of Orange because of their significant negative impacts to humans and wildlife, including noise pollution, air pollution, wildlife habitat destruction and decreased survival rate of trees and other types of vegetation. According to the general plan, “The City will work to improve the quality of life for all residents by providing residential, commercial, industrial, and public uses that exist in harmony with the surrounding urban and natural environments.” Therefore, it is imperative that the city take the necessary steps to address leaf blower issues, mitigate the current negative impacts, investigate the alternatives and develop a plan for the implementation of solutions.
The Orange County Grand Jury Report on leaf blowers declared that leaf blower operations represent health hazards to the citizens of Orange County.
State law mandates that the sale of gas-powered landscape equipment is to be phased out by 2024. Many cities in CA have already banned leaf blowers, including Laguna Beach and Newport Beach.
