Riboflavin is a light-sensitive, golden-yellow nutrient that connects quantum photochemistry with mitochondrial energy production and antioxidant defense. It connects several fundamental aspects of our quantum biology:

🟡 LIGHT: Riboflavin absorbs blue light and can emit yellow-green fluorescence when excited.

⚡ ELECTRONS: Its active forms help transfer electrons through mitochondrial pathways that support energy production.

🌿 RESILIENCE: It supports glutathione recycling and cellular redox balance.

Riboflavin participates in electron-transfer chemistry, while mitochondrial energy production depends on the coordinated movement of electrons and protons. This is molecular biology operating according to the fundamental laws of physics.

And how do we nourish this remarkable chemistry?

Through everyday foods such as mushrooms, almonds, eggs, yogurt, and leafy greens. Riboflavin is also sensitive to light, which is why protecting foods like milk from prolonged light exposure helps preserve this nutrient. Adequate intake matters, but more is not necessarily better. Something as simple as a B vitamin can connect nutrition to the quantum chemistry of life. Its light-responsive properties and mitochondrial roles are distinct, yet both reveal the remarkable versatility of this molecule.

This weekend, I’ll be at the @plminstitute Thought Leaders Consortium, where mitochondrial function is our theme. I’ll be presenting on mitophytonutrients, exploring how food-derived compounds interact with mitochondrial biology, metabolism, and cellular resilience. I’ll also be bringing insights from my recent experience at the Science of Consciousness Conference, where I’ve been thinking more deeply about the intersections of light, energy, molecular organization, and living systems.

The more I explore these connections, the more I appreciate that nutrition is so much more than calories and chemical building blocks. Food provides molecules that participate in the fundamental electron chemistry sustaining life.
