🌸 Enviro Week ♻️ Happy Australian Enviroweek! This week teaches us about sustainability, waste reduction and positive environmental action! Many of our handmade makers display sustainability in a powerful way and this week we will walk you through a few of them! First up we have @ploysdesign They upcycle discarded pool inflatables into bold, one-of-a-kind bags and accessories. Since 2020, they’ve been giving PVC waste a second life- reducing plastic pollution and helping protect our oceans. 夏の終わりに、捨てられていく浮き輪🛟やビーチボールをアップサイクル♻️し、バッグやポーチへと生まれ変わらせているのが、オーストラリア🇦🇺クイーンズランド生まれの『PLOYS（プロイズ）』。 作業療法士として働く傍ら、廃棄されるプラスチックの多さに心を痛めていた創業者。自宅で使い古した浮き輪🛟でペンケースやコインケースを作ってみたことでブランドがスタート。夫婦二人三脚で洗浄🚿、裁断✂️、デザインを行い、すべて手作業で仕上げているのだそう。 破れたりパンクしたりしたPVCの浮き輪🛟はリペアが難しく、多くが埋立地行きに。そんな素材の「短すぎる夏」に終止符を打つべく、オーストラリア🇦🇺の人気プールブランド「SUNNYLiFE」とのコラボレーションを行い、回収プログラムも展開しているのだとか。 フラミンゴ🦩にジョーズ🦈、ユニコーン🦄など —— 夏の記憶が毎日に寄り添うバッグへと生まれ変わる、素敵なアップサイクル♻️ブランドです。 #repost @ploysdesign #あらゆるアップサイクルな情報をお届けする情報メディア #upcycler #アップサイクラー

'If our children don’t know about our Australian animals, why would they want to save them?' This is the story that started it all for the founder of Fabriculture and it is a story that I love as much as these beautiful playing cards. From a photoshoot point of view, smaller products are always much trickier to shoot whilst telling a story, I need to get close to the product to show what it is but also pull back to 'tell the story' with the surroundings. Image 1 is super simple, this story is one of the cards being pulled out of the hessian Christmas stocking as a present. Note how the model's orange dress makes the blue really pop. Image 2 is a hint of a story, one of carrying the cards with you in a handbag as you never know when you can use them. This shot also incorporates another small business product for cross-collaboration. This image is a great example of negative space for text overlays :) To elaborate on the previous story, the cards are now being played poolside (images 3 & 4), with one of the cards being looked at and read.. This image could be used for an IG stories poll or question sticker on preferred card games. The story here is one of family time together, relaxing and calm. Images 5 & 7 are a variation of a product shot, although the orange tones of the box make the blue jump out again. AND is it just me or does it feel right to store playing cards in an old vintage wooden box?! Playing cards is an activity that we enjoy as a family, (and also Solitaire on our own ) and Iove the idea of children learning about Australian animals and fauna as they play. Image 6 is an over-the-shoulder shot, which always makes the viewer feel part of the action... Don't you just want to lean over and help!?! The underlying story here, for me, was celebrating the amazing illustrations, promoting the joy of time together, the importance of learning about Australia's native plants and animals (as a UK expat, I'm still learning myself!) and hopefully making the viewer want to reach out and purchase a pack. I was delighted to showcase Do Op Shop Bulimba, local artist Deane Featonby, and sustainable brand Ploys Designs in what I wore to the Parliamentary Midwinter Charity Ball this week. I worked with @featonby.art who designed “The View from Highgate Hill”, which features the city view and gazebo atop Gladstone Road at Highgate Hill Park. The dress itself was a $15 purchase from @do_opshop in Bulimba, of which I am a (very) loyal customer! And my bag was created from recycled repurposed pool toys and created by @ploysdesign. Thank you to everyone who brought this outfit to life. I was so incredibly proud to bring different parts of my community to Canberra and showcase more sustainable fashion.
