In the Village this week:

★ From 24 October, anyone newly hired to work directly with tamariki will have their overseas convictions checked as well as their NZ record. Existing children’s workers follow from 24 April 2027. It’s part of the Responding to Abuse in Care Legislation Amendment Act 2025, and a quiet but welcome lift in keeping kids safe. (Source: Ministry of Education)

★ This Thursday, 15 October, is Plunket’s Giving Day. For 24 hours, or until the match runs out, every donation is matched dollar for dollar by the Wright Family Foundation. It’s backing Whānau Āwhina Plunket’s Online Perinatal Wellbeing Service, which supports parents who find specialist help hard to reach. @plunketnz (Source: Scoop)

★ It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, 12 to 18 October, and this year’s theme is Belonging Matters. One real chat, a check-in on a mate, or finally saying kia ora to the neighbour you keep meaning to meet all count. Find ideas and resources at mhaw.nz @mhfnz #mhawnz

★ Dame Lisa Carrington and husband Michael Buck have welcomed their first baby, a wee girl! She shared a peek at those tiny feet and says they’re completely in love. Congratulations to the whānau ♡ (Source: 1News)

Support Crew – Assistance on our Journey
In this episode of Chats Behind the Chair, Deborah and Janey explore the importance of your Support Crew, the people who believe in you, encourage you and help you keep going when you’re not quite sure you can.

In this episode, Deborah also talks about the beliefs we pick up throughout our lives, the way we speak to ourselves, and why trying something new can feel so uncomfortable in the beginning.

Because sometimes having someone beside you who believes in you before you believe in yourself can be enough to help you take the next step.

A big thank you to the @plunketnz team for supplying some of the goodies for our Dunk it for Plunket morning teas across Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. ☕️🌭🧁

Our Auckland crew turned up the heat with a bake-off, while Wellington enjoyed the Plunket treats, and Christchurch fired up the BBQ for a sausage sizzle.

It was a great chance for our teams to get together, share some food and have a bit of fun, all while supporting the Dunk it for Plunket cause and recognising the important work Plunket does for whānau across New Zealand.

Thanks to everyone who got involved with baking, BBQing and dunking!

As we wrap up September the divine team at @safety.managed wanted to send the Tea Trolley for @plunketnz ‘Dunkit for Plunket’ to @raglanmedicalcommunity one of our most adored and respected members - who, quite frankly, keep us alive!! As far as local respect goes, Raglan Medical is right up there at the top!

What fun it’s been moving the tea trolley around town. If you missed out this year we will do it again next year …

Which means… OCTOBER and SUNSHINE is knocking on our door ☀️

A great day of connection and kōrero with Ruth Money, Chief Victims Advisor to Government, who joined some of our @canterburyfamilyviolencecollab Steering Group members in August.

It was a valuable opportunity to connect in person, share more about the mahi of CFVC, and kōrero about the experiences, challenges and exciting opportunities across the family violence and sexual violence sector in Canterbury.

Thank you, Ruth, for making the time to meet with us and for the thoughtful kōrero and insights shared. We really value these opportunities to strengthen relationships and keep working together towards better outcomes for our communities. 🤝

A very special thank you to our wonderful supporters at @Traiteur European Butchery in Merivale, for providing such lovely kai for our hardworking team to enjoy. Your ongoing support means so much to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the care you continue to show CFVC. We hope to see your business go from strength to strength. ❤️

A little cold. A lot of fun. All for a very good cause. 🧊💜

Our Dunk It for Plunket morning was one to remember — brave dunks, plenty of laughs, hot coffee from odd saint and an incredible Queenstown community getting behind Plunket.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, came down, cheered us on and took the plunge. 🫶

Safe to say… some of us handled the cold better than others. 😂❄️
