I was honored to attended the Butler County Board of Commissioners public meeting to honor my grandfather, Dr. Paul Maust. His Navy flag that was provided to our family to honor his memorial was proudly flown at the Butler County government center from June 30th through July 6th.

This flag does not just symbolize my grandfather’s service but the freedom this country has because of our veterans. My grandfather honorably served in the United States Navy Reserve from June 1944-1951. He also served on the USS Weaver and the USS Hammann during World War II. My grandfather received five stars for Asiatic Pacific Theatre, earned American Theatre, Philippine liberation ribbons, and victory medal commendations.

Dr. Paul Maust graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and subsequently received his medical degree after turning at the Naval hospital in Philadelphia. He was a member of the American Medical Association and certified by the American Board of surgery and practiced General surgery in Butler from 1962-1999. He served as president of the Butler medical Society and chief of staff at Butler Memorial Hospital.

My grandfather has made an impact on many lives and I hope to follow in this footsteps. This flag and memorial means the world to my family and I. We are so grateful that this flag got to be flown for the 250th anniversary of America. 🇺🇸
