Doctoring a calf from the comfort of the warm side x side.

We came up on this calf that looked a little sick. When he started walking we realized he really didn’t feel good. The @pneudart gun was already on board so it wasn’t but a minute before he was on his way to feeling better.

We’re so grateful to have our recent Zimbabwe trip featured in the @fordsouthafrica Ford Wildlife Foundation’s newsletter!

From getting veterinary books and equipment into the hands of future vets at the University of Zimbabwe, to supporting animal health and welfare in the surrounding rural communities, this trip was a reminder of what Vetbooks for Africa is all about.

A huge thank you to the Ford Wildlife Foundation for helping share our story and supporting our mission to make veterinary education more accessible across Africa. 💙

The use of a dart gun is an alternative method that is what we consider to be low stress compared to roping cattle to doctor and administer medication especially when the animal is already sick. @pneudart

Have you seen this method before?

POV: When the lions arrange their own bait for darting.

Usually, I dart lions on a bait… but these guys had other plans! After taking down an eland with the pride overnight, the pride left me with the perfect opportunity for early-morning darting and a check-up of this young male. Which included a health check, rabies vaccination and blood sample collection.

All good! And not long after, he was back with mum and his siblings.
