POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This week, a gentleman from out of state returned to our retail storefront to purchase more artwork by Liz Bering of Peanut Butter Prints. While browsing, he fell in love with pieces from a few other artists as well!

We love when out-of-town customers connect with an artist, return for more, and discover new favorites. The stories and connections that unfold are just part of the magic that Threshold Arts brings to those in and out of our community.

☼ ʙᴏᴏᴋ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ: ᴛʀᴇᴇ ᴡɪꜱᴅᴏᴍ ☼

I’ve spent the last week pouring over this book and my final take is that I am simply 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙.

This masterpiece is absolutely jam packed with information; the author, Jacqueline Memory Paterson, making use of every square inch of each page. Each chapter focuses on a specific tree, studying them using six different categories titled: 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀.

There’s an excellent balance of content from scientific information and illustrations to aid in identifying each species of tree, to the author’s personal anecdotes and experience in interpreting the historical context and spiritual meaning of the trees.

My absolute favourite concept explored in this book is the idea of 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸, storing data gained from observing the life lived around them. Paterson consistently champions that by working with trees, their memories emerge, deepening our ancestral bond and illuminating their inherent divinity.

Paterson is incredibly purposeful in her writing. She doesn’t divulge any information or explore any tangents without explaining their relevance. She is also very expressive, making her pure love for nature evident. She speaks in beautifully articulated metaphors and gives us intricate descriptions of nature with vivid sensory detail (𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩).

𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 by Jacqueline Memory Paterson is amazing, stunning, incredible and she 𝙞𝙨 the moment. 5/5 ☆

One year of school down, one to go! I made it through 1 year of postpartum, motherhood, and full-time studies in one piece, albeit worse for wear. And though this past few months have made it nearly impossible for me to put a dent in my reading challenge for this year, I’m very thankful at this moment that @bramptonlibrary no longer has late fees 😬 Hoping I’ll get to put my new @pnutbutterprints bookmark to good use!

P.S. I cannot wait to share about the amazing internship I landed for the summer 🍊😎
