PocketMeter Pro - A light meter app for both photographers and cinematographers!
Now available at the @apple @appstore!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A sneak peek at @pocketmeter.pro v1.1! 👀

We’re almost at a month since PocketMeter Pro dropped in the App Store! A special thank you to everybody who purchased the app, shared it with friends, and even beta tested it. It’s continued success allows us to continue adding features and improving the app!

We have a lot of new features and small fixes coming out in v1.1.

- 1x and 2x zoom button. Closing down your field of view gives you a more accurate meter reading and you have full functionality in the deck like spot metering while zoomed in.

- Persistent settings memory. Have an ISO, Aperture, or shutter speed you’re locked into and you closed the app? Your settings will be locked into the next time you open the app.

-Spot metering indicated in the logged images. When you tap for a meter reading, the location of the tap is indicated in the logged image.

A Contax, a light meter app and a bunch of cars getting destroyed walk into an Instagram post...
ba-dum-tss 🥁

Bad joke aside, this Contax has a pretty special story. It belonged to a client I worked with for a while, and together we built an archive of photographs spanning much of his life, organizing and preserving years of images that meant a lot to him and his family. He sadly passed away, and thanks to his wife, the camera eventually came to me.
I’m really happy to have it. Every time I use it, it brings back memories of a genuinely great person.

Now to shoot this roll, I also tried Pocket Meter @pocketmeter.pro a light meter app made by Bill Manning @studio.c41 from @atlantafilm.co
Bill is basically one of my occasional film dealers, helping keep my stash alive with cool rolls.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to actually post this about the app, but I finally did. The video shows the whole thing: meter the scene, transfer the settings to the Contax, shoot, and see what comes back.

And what did I decide to photograph for the test? The demolition derby in Fernie last August. Because apparently the logical next step after talking about archives, memory and light meters is watching cars smash into each other.
Try the app, kids. It works great!

And the film was @flicfilminc Aurora 800 😅

We’re diving into a small education series on how to get the most out of your experience with the PocketMeter Pro app! We start with its origin story. I hated having to remember how shutter angle translated to shutter speed, so I set out on this journey to solve that one problem: building a light meter app on my phone that gave me both shutter speed for stills and shutter angle for motion capture. For those who shoot both a stills camera and a motion picture film camera, like a Super 8 or 16mm, this meter will help you get the exact exposure for your frame. Then we briefly dive into reading a false color map so you know exactly what to expect from your exposure.

PocketMeter Pro releases from the @apple @appstore September 22, 2026 at 10:00 EDT! This app is the perfect light meter for photographers and cinematographers all together under one app. One of my absolute favorite features is false color. This feature, commonly used by cinematographers to visualize their exposure, is now accessible for photographers.

This is a HUGE benefit for film photographers. We’ve heard the saying, “Meter for your shadows,” “Meter for your Highlights,” or “Meter for your midtones.” Well, there’s no more guessing with false color. Know your exposure before you take the shot.

False color in its simplest form is a visualization of your exposure. Your purples and dark blacks represent your shadows. Green is your middle exposure, and the pink is where your light skintones would land. Then your light gray is highlights and your yellow/red is the top end of your highlights where you clip into pure white.

PocketMeter Pro launches Tuesday, September 22.
Introductory price is $9.99 through December 31, 2026, moving to $14.99 on January 1, 2027.

We know photographers and cinematographers can’t stand subscriptions, so this professional level light meter is a one time purchase. You’ll keep receiving updates and new features for the lifetime of the app.

We believe a powerful app should be accessible to professionals, hobbyists, and students alike.

You can still beta test the app for free until September 18th! Head over to @pocketmeter.pro and checkout the link for the TestFlight link!

Ten Thousand website views! Wow! Thank you all for taking the time to check out this app! This project started from a place of frustration where I just couldn’t find the light meter that was right for me. PocketMeter Pro was never built to replace a light meter. It was built as a dependable backup or an extension for metering your light and was a tool that was simple and functional.

If you’re beta testing your app, I would love to hear your feedback! Share pictures, screenshots, and screen recordings with PocketMeter Pro in action!

If you’re interested in beta testing @pocketmeter.pro head over to the website and click the link that says “Join the Beta!”
