POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This year I set a resolution to focus on my writing. I thought like many New Year's resolutions that I would abandon it after a month. Writing is my first love. Everyone who knows me intimately knows that if I could, I would just isolate myself and write. No eating, sleeping, just writing. Ok maybe a little eating because I am a foodie.

Telling stories was an outlet for me at a young age. Everything that I couldn't say, but felt deeply went on a page. From the Sierra Leone civil war to displacement and loss of home. I feel stuck sometimes because most of my stories are from a child's point of view.

I challenged myself this year by writing down a list of 100 things that could produce a "no" but all related to writing. This is based off a viral Tiktok trend "1,000 rejections challenge." The idea is that they're rejections not failures. The most you'll get is a "no." So why not? One of my rejections was to submit something to a publication. I did it and I got a yes. For this to be also in a publication founded by a Sierra Leonean means even more to me.

I am grateful to Poda Poda for publishing “Tellam Tenki” and giving it a place among other work that takes storytelling seriously. Seeing poems and stories from writers all over the continent is amazing. This issue is on Omission: "The theme "Omission" examines concepts of erasure, white lies, and conceit." Well done on putting this together 👏🏾 Read the publication here: https://poda-poda.com/issues/omission

Good news for your holiday gifts ! Did you know Leila and Her Jar also has a coloring and activity book for children? The coloring and activity book features illustrations of memorable scenes from the story of Leila and her Jar, a faith filled retelling of a classic Bible story of the woman with the alabaster jar. This activity book is perfect for parents to share with their children and a great tool for teachers and homeschoolers to help children learn about Jesus. Copies can be purchased on Amazon alongside your purchase of Leila and Her Jar.
