“Writing Raw” is a poetry workshop where participants explore personal narratives without guilt, shame, or remorse. During the workshop, writers will delve into themes of identity, morality, and overcoming self-censorship and emotional barriers. We will use the techniques of freewriting, sensory exploration, and peer feedback, as participants craft authentic poetry, harnessing the power of imagery and sensory details. Facilitated by Bronx Poet Laureate, Kay Bell, Writing Raw will include analyzing published poets and mentor texts such as Sylvia Plath’s “Daddy,” Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise,” and Jimmy Santiago Baca’s “So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs Away,” to help writers emerge with a raw, unedited collection, newfound confidence, and a supportive community.#iamkaybell #bronxpoetlaureate #poetrycommunity #poets #poetry #bronxpoets #dabronx #poeticpathwaysinc

P.S- the statue on slide 3 has an interesting story (look it up) it’s in the park in the Bronx called Joyce Kilmer and it is of Louis Heintz who helped bring what we know as the Grand Concourse, to the Bronx. This womanly figure is on the side of the monument with this inscription. She has a pen in her hand.
