Two Emmy ceremonies in two weeks. Who saw that coming?

I made a 33 hour trip back to Chicago for the 68th Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards, where I’m honored to continue serving as a Governor on the board of the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

I had the joy of hosting the Crystal Pillar Awards, which celebrate our student journalists and the future of this industry.

The best part was watching my friends and mentees take home their first Emmys, and for some, their latest of several. I also loved surprising friends and catching up with former colleagues.

Big thanks to my sister/personal photographer @abena44 for capturing some truly great photos. I may live (and love) New York, but Chicago will always be home.

Hanging at the @nabjofficial Sports Task Force party until 2, then getting up at 5:30 to catch a flight is insane 😵‍💫 … but I was just so excited to see all my freeeeeeeeeeeeeens! 🤩 #NABJ26

🖤✊🏿Another busy yet fulfilling NABJ convention. Sat on panels, moderated the election forum, did the @nabj5k for the first time, and caught up with friends and mentors from around the country. Always proud to rep @nabj_chicago along the way. I would choose to be a Black journalist in every lifetime. #nabj26 #nabj #nabjatlanta

After a week with some of my favorite journalists in one of my favorite cities, I’m settling into my new hometown.
#NABJ often serves as a reset for Black journalists because it gives us a chance to relax, relate, and release. This is something that we all need as the landscape of the business is constantly changing.

I was honored this year to speak on my first panel and I think I gave some nuggets that will help current and future Black news director. I am available for any panels next year too lol
But also, I got to see my legacy live in action. As someone who is constantly on the move, I don’t always get to see how my work isn’t in vain. But all the love and appreciation I received this past week has made every sacrifice I’ve made worth it. Thank you everyone for every single hug and word of encouragement and congratulations. As I stated this past week, the boss needs to hear they are doing a great job, too. Now let’s get back to work and show why #JournalismMatters #NABJ26 #TeamTEGNA @poinesha @tiairashoultz @tammyarnettphillips @trogers82969 @bosslady_mrswilson @ventonblandintv
