Standing at this “pretty graveyard” signifying all the women killed in domestic violence attacks this year (there have been more since the establishment of this sculpture) in Australia…. Standing there and meeting a woman who shared that she has a court case tomorrow against her ex partner. She looked at the sculptural graveyard and said “I could have been one of them”. I hugged her.
Violence against women and children does not discriminate. And anyone ANYONE who uses their platform to believe Some women but not others- because they are Jewish or Israeli- is NOT advocating for safety for all women.
We ALL need to do better as a society.
Because one act of violence is one too many.

Often we hear “he just lost control”. Losing control doesn’t equal being violent to your partner. So I figure, here’s some other options when you “lose control”

1 in 3 Australian men have admitted to using intimate partner violence.

It’s a confronting statistic, and one that made our recent Lunch & Learn with Meenal from @polishedman an important conversation for our team.

Polished Man is working to change that statistic by backing the role models men already trust to help flip the script around masculinity. To make opening up a strength. To make asking for help normal. And to encourage men to show up differently for themselves and the people they love.

Paint it blue for a cause.💙

This October, we're proud to support the Polished Man Campaign alongside Respect at Uni, raising awareness and helping take a stand against violence towards women and children.

Want to get involved? Stop by the University Gym and paint one nail blue using the nail station located between the gym floor and cardio area. It's a simple gesture that helps start important conversations and show support for a safer community.

You can also join Respect at Uni in Auchmuty Courtyard on Wednesday 28 October from 12pm-2pm, where they'll be painting nails blue, sharing information about the campaign, and giving away cupcakes and merchandise alongside UNSA's free lunch.

Every blue nail makes a difference.💙

I have been a part of this campaign for 7 or 8 years now. Growing up in a house filled with domestic violence against my mother and my siblings and then being subjected to it in several of my adult relationships, it's a subject close to my heart.

A little bit about how the Polished Man campaign started from their website:

"Why Nail Polish?

Polished Man began when our co-founder, Elliot Costello, met a girl named Thea, who had endured physical and sexual abuse at the Cambodian orphanage she grew up in. She painted his nails and upon returning to Australia, he kept a nail painted to remember her. When he learned the full extent of violence against women and children in Australia, the single polished nail sparked a movement to raise awareness and funds against violence."

Guys… we need to talk.

There’s a rising tide of male violence against women and children, and it’s being fueled by internet “tough guys” and online misogyny. While the majority of men do not perpetrate violence, the vast majority of violence against women and children (about 90%) is committed by men.

I want to contribute to ending violence against women and children - and I’m asking you all to join me. I’m joining the @polishedman campaign to raise money for trauma prevention programs and I’d love it if you could contribute - link in my bio.

With everything we’re seeing around domestic violence in this country, I think it’s more important than ever that we challenge what we’re teaching young men about masculinity.

Strength isn’t about power over someone else. It isn’t about intimidation, aggression or control.

It’s about how you treat people, particularly those who are more vulnerable than you.

I can’t change what I was exposed to growing up, but I can choose the example I set today.

And if I can help even one man understand that he doesn’t need to become the toughest person in the room to be worthy of respect, then that’s something I can be proud of.

We need to show the next generation that there’s another way to be strong.
