In the ancient city of Thanjavur in India's Tamil Nadu state, just seven or eight artisan families—possibly the only ones in the world—have the expertise to craft the sacred Saraswati 'veena' instruments. The city is an important center of South Indian art, religion and architecture. Read the feature (link in bio) by Meenakshi. J @polkajunction

Feature extract:
“Veena-making is a laborious process and involves a lot of skill and precision,” says 70-year-old M. Narayanan, one of the few remaining makers of India’s national musical instrument, as he welcomes me into his home and backyard workshop in Thanjavur, some 350 kilometers south of Chennai. “Our family has been conscientiously handcrafting this divine instrument for over three generations now.”

Travel and stories go together. And wherever there are stories, friends are bound to be present. A charmingly unforgettable book launch brought together friends, travel stories, and a platform where more friends get added to one's list.

The book launched last evening is "घुमक्कड़ी दिल से", a compilation of travel stories in Hindi by Alka Kaushik... published by Bhavna Prakashan.

Met Rana Safvi -- the person to approach if the cultural history of Delhi is to be the focal point, Varun -- the travel vlogger, Mukesh -- husband of the author and a journalist, Meenakshi -- also known as polkadots, Sushmita -- the alpaviram for this world, Vikramjit -- the heritage lover from Delhi, and Sandeep -- the Delhi fun-do, and Akanksha -- the blogger who loves to make a difference... and so many others.

After witnessing these stunning and profound paintings/street art one cannot say NO when we say, Hyderabad is indeed a city of colours. Be it the way of life of its people, a multiverse of cultures, a package of religious practices or just the pure shades of the old streets to gleams of the trendy streets; Hyderabad has it all!

The images posted are just a few among many such surreal street arts and famous 'Cheriyal paintings' (which are in fact miniature scroll paintings) famously know after the place of its origin, Cheriyal (Siddipet district, Telangana). We heart-fully thank PolkaJunction by Meenakshi.J for these fantastic clicks that capture the true essence of our city!

Meenakshi says, "The best thing about art in the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad is that it not just reflects modern abstract art on public canvas but embeds with ease the elements of traditional art forms too." She also adds, "I strongly feel, the beauty of street art lies in the freedom to perceive, according to the sensibilities and sensitivities of the beholder. And it's only limit is, his/her imagination!" #Hyderabad bad #secunderabad #Telangana #art #cherialpaintings #streetartnews #Travel #photography #cheriyal #twincities #colourfull #streetphotography_ #Telangana #telanganatourism #TelanganaCMO #telanganatourism #siddipet #beautyofhyderabad #instagood #Beautiful #artsy #polkajunction
