The beauty of Luohan Temple, Chongqing 🧡
One of the most beautiful places I visited, Luohan Temple truly embodies the ‘old meets new’ aesthetic that China is famous for. Incredible intricate architecture set against the backdrop of Chongqing’s famous skyscrapers, you can really feel a sense of the city’s incredible progress into modern day, whilst still respecting tradition.
The temple site as a religious grounds dates back to the Song dynasty, however much of what you see today has been recreations of the original temples, rebuilt and restored in the 1900s.
Whilst this is a working temple, visitors are able to admire the incredible architecture with a visitor ticket that you can buy just before entering. As long as you are respectful of the monks going about their daily duties and mindful of the worshipers paying their respects, I think it is a spot to visit whilst in the city 🧡

Haddon Hall in bloom, what a beautiful sight to behold! 🌸

Described as ‘the most perfect house to survive the Middle Ages’, this magnificent hall boasts over 900 years of history including amazing Tudor architecture, pretty Elizabethan gardens, and the oldest medieval kitchens in England! 🗡️

It’s also a favourite among film-makers featuring in films and TV series including Pride and Prejudice (2005), Jane Eyre (2010), Mary Queen of Scots (2018), Firebrand (2023) and Wolf Hall (2024) to name just a few 🎥

Did you know you can stay at a castle only just over an hour from London?

@leedscastleuk Leeds Castle in Maidstone in Kent is easily accessible from London Victoria. The castle is open to visitors during the day but there are also various guest accommodations on offer on castle grounds.

We stayed at Maiden’s Tower which is rumoured to have been used by Catherine of Aragon’s maid of honour when she married Henry VIII. Rooms were spacious and neatly decorated in period style.

What to expect when staying overnight at Leeds Castle:

Welcome to the real life set of Downton Abbey!

@highclere_castle has been on my bucket list for ages and boy, did it not disappoint!

Fans of Downton Abbey would recognise the exterior of this castle but did you know filming was also done inside the castle?

Visitors can visit both the castle grounds and inside the castle although photography is not permitted inside the castle as the current owners still live there. The castle is only open during summer (until 28th August for this year) to visitors.

🚌I took a guided tour from London which I booked via @getyourguide. Pick up was from Gloucester Road station and the tour took us to Bampton - a village in Oxfordshire used for filming as well as Highclere Castle. The tour was a very seamless and by far the easiest way to get to the castle.
