Day 277 of Kat’s Grats: Glitter nipples (4/10/26)

There is something about stepping under a canopy of trees that instantly changes something in me. Dappled sunlight filtering through the branches, a sea of ferns carpeting the woodland floor, towering trees standing guard over everything below and shrooms popping up absolutely everywhere. I bloody love shrooms. So many different shapes, colours and varieties to be seen.

Within minutes, I can feel the tension start to melt away. My nervous system relaxes. Everything slows down. I slow down. Even my brain seems to take a little pause.

And then there were the three of us @caroline.henshaw.7 @madebyfacewho each had a very different ideas about what a woodland walk for Caz’s birthday actually involves.

Caz arrived looking ready for a fairly standard dog walk. Jeans. Hoody. With the exception of the bottle of wine she carried with her throughout the walk.
I, on the other hand, had arrived ready to become one with the enchanted fairy kingdom of the woodland.
And then there was Face. There is only one man in my life who would turn up for a birthday woodland walk wearing his Give festival outfit from earlier this summer. And no outfit of his is complete without the infamous red glitter nip stickers. @scooperphotog
the gift that keeps on giving.

He looked less like he was going for a walk and more like he'd just stumbled out of an illicit woodland rave and was making his way back to London.

Those trees had been standing here for hundreds of years. And yet I think it’s fair to say that never before had they witnessed a semi.naked man in red nipple stickers, accompanied by a wannabe woodland fairy and a woman swigging walk juice as we ventured deeper into the woodlands.

We rounded off the birthday celebrations with a celebratory drink and a special birthday plate, courtesy of @pomusfolkestone
aka the best place in town for drinking delicious wine and being looked after by the outstanding team.

Happy birthday babe: a birthday walk that I hope Sets the soundtrack for the year ahead. More woodland walks. More nips. More glitter. More walk juice. More Shrooms. More fairies. MORE. MORE. MORE.

[AD] Looking for the ideal destination for your next date or girls night out? I know a place…

With cosy vibes, outstanding sharing plates and fabulous wine, @pomusfolkestone is one for your must-visit list. I visited earlier this month with @girl.aboutkent and we struggled to pick just a few items to share - it all looked so good!

I kicked things off with a lovely glass of @wooltonfarm rosé before we got stuck into the sharing plates. After much deliberation, we went for:

🍞 Bread with miso and rosemary, sundried tomato and chilli
🍽️ Goat’s cheese mousse with chilli jam and fig
🌶️ Padron peppers with spring onions and chilli jam
🍗 Popcorn chicken with honey and togarashi
🥩 Pork tomahawk with chicken butter and shallots
🥔 Ratte potatoes with harissa and parmesan

The popcorn chicken was the standout for me, but the pork and goat’s cheese mousse were close runners up. It was all beautifully presented with wonderful flavours, making for a relaxed and sociable dining experience.

We - of course - made sure we also had room for some pudding, treating ourselves to a rich Parkin with ruby chocolate and delicate lemon posset. Both were delicious!

This is a great spot and definitely one I’d recommend for a date night or catch up with friends 🌟

My idea of a perfect lunch? Small plates & a VERY good wine list 🧡

@pomusfolkestone has been one of my favourite places for a long lunch since opening last year ✨️🫒

Think seasonal sharing plates with simple ingredients done so well, a menu too good to pick from & a seriously good wine list 🥂🍸

We picked a selection of sharing plates this visit & if you forced me to pick two favourites I'd probably have to say the Goats Cheese Mousse with Chilli Jam & Fig, & the Flat Iron Steak with Devilled Butter & Watercress, washed down with a @wayfarerwines Chardonnay 🥩🌿
