Massimo Giannoni: VOLUMI

8-31 October 2026
Private View: 8 October, 6-8pm

Pontone Gallery is delighted to present VOLUMI, an exhibition of paintings by Italian artist Massimo Giannoni.

@massimogiannoni_artist

Exploring bookshops, libraries and museums as spaces of knowledge and discovery, Giannoni paints densely packed interiors filled with books, manuscripts and architectural details.
His richly worked oil paintings are built through expressive impasto and diffuse light, transforming these spaces into atmospheric and almost sacred environments.

Strikingly unpopulated, the paintings evoke both the melancholy of absence and the enduring presence of knowledge, inviting us to explore the quiet worlds held within these spaces.

Contemporary Istanbul has opened its doors to art lovers for its 21st edition, bringing together galleries from Türkiye and around the world under one roof.

Our first guest at Contemporary Istanbul is Chris Rivers of Pontone Gallery. Together, we take a closer look at his works and explore his artistic practice.

As the media partner of @contemporaryistanbul, we would like to thank @pontonegallery and @chrisriversart for welcoming us and opening their doors to KUN.

VIP Preview at Contemporary Istanbul 2026 ✨

Bringing a curated eye to Miami real estate ✨

A first look at this year’s fair at Tersane Istanbul with major names including Julie Mehretu, Laure Prouvost, Niki de Saint Phalle, César, Alfredo Jaar and Ali Kazma, alongside a strong new generation of Turkish and international artists.

One of my personal finds was Hwang Seontae at Pontone Gallery. I loved the way he uses light, architecture and interiors to create something almost weightless.

Art, space, material and scale. Exactly what I came for.

Kyle Barnes: Venus Rising @pontonegallery London

Barnes’ paintings - large-scale, monumental, realistically-rendered female heads - are isolated against flat colour-field backgrounds and depicted with a thorough coating of viscous liquid like a sudden immersion

A little reminder that ‘Contemporary Istanbul’ Art Fair opens this Wednesday, 23 September.

Four of my new paintings will be shown with @pontonegallery at Booth B103, where they will be on view until 27th September at the historic Tersane Istanbul.

I’m sharing ‘Still, Light Remains II’ here today.

This new body of work continues my exploration of nostalgia, longing, disturbance and revelation, bringing together the romantic and the graphic, the familiar and the unexpected.

I’m very excited to see these new paintings in Istanbul and to have them presented by Pontone Gallery.

Bu yeni eser grubum; nostalji, özlem, huzursuzluk ve açığa çıkış temaları etrafında şekilleniyor. Romantik ile grafik olanı, tanıdık ile beklenmedik olanı bir araya getiriyor.
