POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One week ago today, I checked off one of the top bucket-list items of my entire life: I stood on the @TEDxOrlando stage and shared a story that’s lived in my heart for a long time.

Being up there alongside people I’d never have met any other way was truly remarkable. Champions, survivors, designers and decision-makers, each stepping forward to share their own story in the pursuit of ideas worth sharing.

Standing on that red dot, I got to tell the story of Ruby and Ichthyotitan, along with my own 20-year adventure in science education. Most of all, I loved the chance to share why science matters so much, and why it deserves (and we deserve) a new understanding of it as a process, not just a collection of facts.

If you stopped by to see the mobile museum on full display, you know how awesome it was. What you might not know is how blessed I was to have some of my closest friends and family there, helping people rediscover their favorite dinosaurs.

Every chapter of my life was represented. Nico, one of my best and dearest friends. Curt and Carol (@curt_franklin) , two of the most wonderful, creative makers I’ve ever known. Jeff (@nerdspresso ), Tate and JJ (@poorly_drawn_plans) from my Science Center days. Alec (@petrichor.and.earl.grey ), my former student who continues to inspire me every day. And of course my family: my sister, my brother and sister-in-law, and my lovely wife Beth (@denny_doing_good ), who have supported me through these past eight months.

None of this would have happened without my coach and TEDxOrlando chair, Nick Rogers ( @nickrogershq ). He generously worked with me and a group of fellow speakers, sharing his wisdom and experience as a presenter, a storyteller, and a survivor.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. 🔴🦖

Meet artist Joy Choi @poorly_drawn_plans She uses watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints to tell her stories. She will often incorporate washed up plastic she finds along the beach into unique mixed media pieces.

As an avid urban sketcher, Joy loves to quickly sketch a moment whether it be during her travels or right in her neighborhood.

On @tomanddanlive today we talked about dopamine decor, which is when you focus on decorating with playful and personal objects to trigger happiness and brain reward activation rather than following traditional neutral aesthetics or resale rules. So here's somethings that bring me joy & dopamine when I look at them! Show us yours!

“Harvest” was a huge success! Tellers and listeners came from far afield to hear our bounty of stories. And boy did we reap what they sowed! We enjoyed a bumper crop from “first timers” to “old timers,” each of whom planted seeds of truth we’ll enjoy all season long! (and even perennially!)

Can I stop now??

Congrats to our trio who tied at the top — JJ, Jules and Dale — and to all our performers who yielded (Oh no! Another pun!) a fantastic night!

Tonight at @looselipsorlando @lil_indies my piece was about how 1 in 3 adults in America are turning to AI chatbots for health information. Well, I challenged ChatGPT to a live therapy contest and let's just say that IT WAS a draw! 🙌🏽 Thank you @diannewritesthings for inviting me and thank you @poorly_drawn_plans for your beautiful art!
