Yesterday at the Michigan State Fair was such a fun reminder of just how much talent we have right here in Michigan.

Huge shoutout to Lindsay and Renee with A Pop of Indie for bringing so many independent Michigan children’s book authors together, creating opportunities for our books to reach new families, and building such a supportive community around indie publishing.

There’s something pretty special about seeing all of these stories, authors, and books together in one place — and knowing they were created right here in our own state.

So grateful to have been a little part of it!

Spent the day at the @michiganstatefair spreading the joy of reading. Thank you for partnering with @popofindie and supporting Michigan indie authors. It was so much fun sharing our stories with little readers. My favorite moment was when a little girl ran over to me to tell me she has my picture book, Finding Bunny, and it is her favorite book. She reads it every night and has memorized the words. 💜 It’s moments like this that make being an author worth it.

We’re headed to the Michigan State Fair!

Join A Pop of Indie this Sunday for Reader’s Roundup — a full day of children’s book readings, interactive activities, giveaways, and FREE books for early guests at each reading!

I’ll be taking the My Michigan Farmland Stage at 1:30 PM with Midwest Garden Helpers! We’ll explore the garden, learn about some of our favorite Midwest veggies, and have a little hands-on fun along the way.

And the first 20 families at my presentation will receive a FREE copy of the book!

175 BOOKS are packed up and headed out the door! 📚🥹

Today I’m sending 25 copies of each of the five ABC Creature Discovery books, 25 copies of The Case of the Missing Lunches, plus five complete Creature Series bundles to A Pop of Indie!

A Pop of Indie is a traveling Michigan book fair created to help indie authors get their books into the hands of more readers—and I am SO excited to have my books be part of it. 💛

There’s something a little surreal about looking at two big boxes and realizing there are 175 books I wrote inside them, headed off to find kids and families I may never even meet. That’s pretty incredible.

And this is just the beginning… 🎡

A Pop of Indie is heading to the Michigan State Fair, where I’ll be featuring Midwest Garden Helpers! Stay tuned because I have some fun things planned for that one.

Here’s to indie books finding their readers—one box (or apparently TWO very heavy boxes 😂) at a time.

We had so much fun at camp today. I read my debut picture book, Finding Bunny, then we did a handprint bunny craft.

Have you tried it? It’s simple.

🐰Have your child select their favorite colored paper.
💜Trace their hand.
🐰Cut out their handprint.
💜Cut off the middle finger.
🐰Fold down the pinky and the thumb finger.
💜Decorate!

The best little keepsake you can repeat every year.

Detroit Festival of Books is my favorite event as an author, writer and lover of reading. Today was my fourth year participating as an author and it just keeps getting better every year. What a wonderful community to be a part of. Thank you @detbookfest and to everyone who helped bring this event to life. See you next year!

A Small Idea That Keeps Growing 💫

I wanted to create a space where young storytellers could dream up big ideas, create unforgettable characters, and discover the joy of writing their own picture books.

A year ago, this was just an idea. Now, that little idea has grown into multiple Picture Book Writing Camps, welcoming aspiring authors from 1st through 5th grade.

Watching these young writers find their voice has become one of my favorite parts of being an author.

Here’s to the next generation of storytellers. I can’t wait to see where their stories take them.
