Yesterday, I was only planning to walk up the hill behind my house for a few quick photos of the solar eclipse.
On the way up, I could already see several hot air balloons in the distance, slowly moving toward the Sun. At some point I started wondering: what if one of them actually crossed the eclipse?
So I tried to estimate when the balloons would reach the Sun and where I needed to stand for the best chance. I moved as far to the right as the hill would allow, set up the camera, and started shooting an interval.
Then I waited.
A few minutes later, it actually happened.
One of the balloons passed directly through the thin crescent of the eclipsed Sun.
I could hardly believe it when I saw the frame on the camera.
You can plan a shot like this, prepare for it, and try to predict the timing. But in the end, you still need that one brief moment where everything lines up.
Yesterday, somehow, it did. 🌒🎈
