COMING HOME IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. 🧡💙 SAVE THE DATE — OCTOBER 2, 2026 ABC Reentry is bringing our community together for Wrongful Conviction Day: A Resource Fair & Community Celebration in Chicago. From 12–5 PM, we’ll connect exonerees, returning citizens, and families preparing for a loved one’s return with organizations and resources addressing the many needs that arise before and after incarceration—from legal services and housing to healthcare, employment, identification, financial stability, and more. From 5–8 PM, we’ll come together to celebrate the resilience of those who have come home and the communities that help them rebuild. But we don’t want to simply create an event for our community. We want to build it with our community. What do people coming home need? What questions are they facing? What resources would make reentry easier? What would make this day genuinely useful? We want to hear from you. We’re inviting exonerees, returning citizens, families, service providers, innocence organizations, legal advocates, community organizations, volunteers, and supporters to save the date and help us make this day meaningful. Interested in participating, volunteering, partnering, sponsoring, donating, or providing resources? Please reach out to ashley@abcreentry.org. 📅 October 2, 2026 ⏰ 12–8 PM 📍 311 N. Thank you to @wallsturnedsideways and Beti films for partnering with ABC Reentry to host a screening of Post Conviction. Post Conviction shines a light on the challenges within our criminal justice system and the long, often difficult journey to overturn a wrongful conviction. Through the stories of Roosevelt Myles and Jacky Burks, the film offers a rare look at the emotional, legal, and human realities of seeking justice. Following the screening, attendees heard from Jacky Burks, who continues to fight to overturn his conviction, filmmaker Margaret Byrne, Roosevelt Myles, and Ashley Cohen, one of Roosevelt’s attorneys and Founder & Executive Director of ABC Reentry. Their discussion highlighted not only the fight for freedom, but also the importance of advocacy, community, and support long after someone walks out of prison. If you’re in the Peoria area, we encourage you to attend tomorrow’s screening at the Peoria riverfront museum at 6 PM. This is more than a documentary, it’s an opportunity to better understand the lasting impact of wrongful convictions and why the work toward justice doesn’t end with release. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of thoughtful conversation and shared commitment to creating more second chances. P.S. ABC has merch for sale! If you’re interested in buying something, please DM us. All proceeds go to furthering ABCs mission to help returning citizens succeed post incarceration. 🫶🏼

When we’re not in the office, CARPLS staff love getting out into the community to support our incredible partners! Last night, CARPLS Marketing Communications Manager Rabiah Na’Allah attended a screening of Post Conviction, starring Roosevelt Myles. You may recognize Roosevelt from this year’s Golden Gavel impact video. A former New Leaf Illinois client turned advocate, Roosevelt recently had both a cannabis conviction and a wrongful murder arrest expunged. After serving 28 years for a crime he did not commit, Roosevelt has dedicated his life to helping others. He is the co-founder of ABC Reentry, a nonprofit launched alongside attorney Ashley Cohen, who helped secure his exoneration, and fellow exoneree Robert Almodovar (not pictured). We’re grateful for opportunities like these to support organizations that empower individuals and advocate for second chances!
