150 years later, Forest Park is still glowing

There’s a reason this St. Louis icon was recently named the #1 city park in the country. Forest Park is larger than Central Park and somehow manages to pack an incredible amount of art, history, science, nature, and entertainment into one place.

Start with the story of St. Louis at the Missouri History Museum, admire world-class art at the St. Louis Art Museum, then head over to the Science Center to get hands-on with science and space.
And that’s only the beginning.

Your next fall road trip should include the iconic St. Louis flavors along Route 66! 🚗🍂🍔🥤

Some of these places have been serving St. Louis for generations, and they’re still doing what made them famous in the first place: good food, old-school hospitality, and plenty of nostalgia.
Here’s your classic St. Louis Route 66 food crawl:

Crown Candy Kitchen 🍫
Opened in 1913 by Harry Karandzieff and Pete Jugaloff, Crown Candy has remained in the same family for generations. The vintage soda fountain, candy cases and old-school atmosphere make this one of St. Louis’ true time capsules.
Order:
• The enormous BLT
• A malt or shake
• House-made chocolates

Carl’s Drive-In 🍔
The building dates back even further, but Carl’s became Carl’s Drive-In in 1959 when Carl Meyer bought the restaurant and continued the classic drive-in tradition. Today, the burgers and famous root beer are still served with the same nostalgic feel.

• Famous root beer

Donut Drive-In 🍩
Built in 1952 and sitting along Route 66 ever since, Donut Drive-In has become a St. Louis roadside icon. Its classic neon sign and fresh-made donuts make it feel like stepping straight into another era.

• Peaches with macadamia nuts

Ted Drewes 🍦
The St. Louis Ted Drewes story began in 1930, but the legendary Chippewa location opened along Route 66 in 1941. The family’s famous Concrete was introduced in 1959 and yes, it’s served upside down.

Village Bar 🍺
A classic St. Louis neighborhood bar and restaurant, Village Bar brings the kind of laid-back, old-school atmosphere that makes a Route 66 stop memorable. Come for the food, stay for the character.

• 🥤 A cold drink
