What an incredible night getting to connect with fellow artists, filmmakers and advocates. I learned so much and was awe inspired by the work @coolhandseries is doing. Seriously y’all, they are helping bring filmmaking and creative arts into prison and changing lives. Get involved. I am going to volunteer and cannot wait.

Shout to the beautiful @nicolegleier for the invite, you’re the best 🫶🏻

A huge thank you to everyone who joined Powerhouse + Cool Hand Series at Fifth Season last week for an evening of connection, beautiful rooftop energy, and a powerful conversation.

I had the privilege of moderating our panel with Rafael Casal, Darrell Britt-Gibson, D’Lo Louis, and Asia Johnson, exploring art, incarceration, and what meaningful creative access actually looks like.

Who gets to participate in culture? Whose stories get told, and who gets to tell them? How can we, as artists and entertainment professionals, create opportunities for people who have too often been excluded?

We talked about seeing the whole person beyond incarceration. About joy, imagination, and agency. And about the difference between telling stories *about* a community and making space for people from that community to shape those stories themselves. ✨

As an actress and the founder of a creative community, these questions matter deeply to me. Creative community means more when we’re able to keep asking ourselves who’s missing and what we can do to open the door.

Thank you to our panelists for sharing soooo generously, to my co-host Madison O’Leary and the Cool Hand Series team for the work you do, and to everyone who helped make this evening possible. And special thanks to those who came out ready to listen, connect, and contribute. You all are the best! ♥️

Let’s keep it going. Visit the event page at powerhouseactor.com/goldenhour (linked in bio) to support Cool Hand Series and find photos from the night.

In the words of Cool Hand Series… Art in, people out.

Not every unanswered email is rejection.

Not every note is criticism.

And not every silence means someone has decided you’re “difficult.”

Sometimes the biggest obstacle in your career is the story you’re telling yourself.

This is just one of the conversations happening inside BASH.

BASH includes 45+ free resources for actors and filmmakers, created by casting directors, agents, coaches, filmmakers, and other people who actually work in the industry and know what they’re talking about.

If you want to go even deeper, there are 80 full masterclasses waiting inside the VIP Lounge.

“If you can do anything else, don’t be an actor” is total BS. 🚫

Having other interests doesn’t make you less of an actor — it makes you human.

🎧 New episode with the brilliant Ajarae Coleman is live now — link in bio.

Plus, she’s teaching a free live class, 21 Days to Wanted, on Thursday, August 13 (10am PT / 1pm ET) — how actors become wanted, remembered, and offered work. Save your spot — link in bio! 🙌

🎭 Tomorrow’s live masterclass is with Ajarae Coleman!

Tomorrow at 4:00 PM Berlin

3:00 PM London | 10:00 AM N.Y. | 7:00 AM L.A.

Ajarae Coleman has worked on Scandal, Private Practice, and NCIS: New Orleans, and she knows that sometimes, the tape isn’t actually the reason an actor stays stuck.

If you’re doing strong work but still feel like you’re not getting into the right rooms, this class is for you.

Tomorrow, Ajarae will break down access, relationships, and how to reach out to people in the industry without sounding like you’re asking them to rescue your career. You’ll work on a simple three-sentence reach-out that sounds like it came from a working peer—and can actually start a conversation.

If you haven’t already, head over to your VIP Dashboard and register for tomorrow’s masterclass. And if you can’t make it live, don’t worry—you’ll be able to catch the replay afterward.

See you in class! 🎭

Paris, je t’aime. Et Normandie aussi. 🥰

The past week was a reminder of how much life expands when you remember to slow down enough to savor it.

A thrilling Men’s Final at Roland Garros. Three auditions self-taped from France with my fav (very handsome) reader. Long dinners filled with laughter, ideas, and great conversation. Practicing my French and getting compliments on my accent - what?!! 🤯😆 Wandering neighborhood markets. Hosting a Powerhouse meetup with members of The Table who call Paris home. Celebrating milestone birthdays for dear friends aboard a beautiful boat on the Seine. Late sunsets. And a couple dreamy days in Cabourg, where time always seems to move at its own pace.

Grateful for the friendships, the experiences, the beauty(!), and the reminder that work, play, creativity, and connection don’t have to exist in separate boxes.

À bientôt, France. ❤️🇫🇷✨

Chicago, that was so much fun!!

Some pics from our Powerhouse meetup at Bar La Rue downtown. New faces, old friends, conversations that kept splintering off into smaller pockets and pulling back together again.

Watching you find each other was the best part. The connections that formed in that room are going to keep going long after the drinks and apps were finished, and that’s exactly what I hoped for.

We’re doing it again. Paris was last week, Los Angeles and New York are next, and there will be more cities after that, here in the US and internationally.

If you want to be in the room next time, comment NEWSLETTER below and I’ll send you the link to join my list. That’s where all the meetup details go first. 🥰

“You would never make a general choice when you’re acting.”
That’s Anne Alexander-Sieder, and she’s making an argument most actors haven’t heard before. The way you’ve been taught to network is the same as a general choice on stage. Nobody cares. Nothing lands.

She watches actors run themselves ragged trying to “make connections” the way LinkedIn taught them to: collect cards, scan rooms, follow up with everyone, keep the contact list growing. The metric is volume.

And it never works.

The reframe Anne offers is simple. You don’t need a thousand connections. You need a handful of really good ones. Depth over volume, authenticity over volume, every time.

Then she takes it one step further. Just think of it like you’re acting. The more specific you are in a scene, the more it lands, the harder it hits, the more it affects the people watching.

General choices in performance feel safe and produce nothing. The same is true for the way you show up with people in this industry.

So instead of trying to be useful to fifty people in a generic way, get specific with five. What do you actually know about them? What are they working on? What is something you could bring them that nobody else has thought to bring?

That’s a real connection. One of those does more than a hundred contact cards.

🎁 Anne contributed two free resources to this year’s Gifts for Actors Giveaway: the Actor Career DNA Decoder (a 15-minute personalized AI coaching conversation) and the Side Door Challenge (5 days of live training to build the relationships that actually move your career).

⏰ The Giveaway closes TODAY. Last chance to grab Anne’s gifts, plus 16 other free gifts from working pros in this industry, and join us at the virtual wrap party tomorrow.

“Don’t drill it ever again. Stop drilling.”

That’s Sarah Gaboury, and she’s tired of watching this one habit wreck audition tapes.

When actors tell her they need to “drill the lines for a little bit,” she gets it. Drilling feels safe, like the responsible thing to do with the time you have. But it’s also the exact move that turns an audition into a recital and a take into a memorized read.

Start with the script analysis, because that part matters. What’s the central conflict of the story? How does your character fit into it? You can’t make a choice that doesn’t support the spine of the piece, and you can’t find the spine without doing the work.
Then it’s time to actually… chill a little bit.

Once you know the structure, soften your approach to the actual work. Start asking different questions: What do I know about this? What do I understand about this? Let the choices come up from somewhere underneath you instead of being hammered in from the top.

Sarah says specificity plus presence is what we call star quality. Drilling is the thing that takes presence off the table. The actors you watch and can’t take your eyes off are doing the opposite of drilling.

🎁 Sarah contributed The Actor’s Barre to this year’s Gifts for Actors Giveaway. It’s a 20-minute moving meditation built to help you stop censoring yourself and trust your impulses, the work that has to happen BEFORE the drilling instinct kicks in.

“Go to therapy, deal with that stuff. And then in here, you’re going to work on your technique.”

That’s how Sarah Gaboury describes the message she got in traditional acting training. Any time the nervous system came up in class, the response was the same: that’s a personal issue, handle it on your own time, the work in here is technique.

Sarah did go to therapy. She also got the technique. And then she had two auditions where she fully freaked out and realized neither one had touched the part of her that was actually breaking down in the room.

The thing missing from her training, she says, was nervous system work, not as a wellness add-on but as craft. The kind of regulation that lets you be in the moment, take a note, discover something on a line instead of delivering what you rehearsed in the mirror.

What she watches on the best sets she’s worked on (This Is Us, Paradise, XO Kitty, Doctor Odyssey) is the opposite of locked-in technique. It’s an allowing, a release, the ability to live in the moment and find something new on every take.

Most of us have heard “be in the moment” a thousand times. Sarah’s point is that hearing it isn’t the same as embodying it. If your training has been technique, technique, technique, technique, the embodiment part has not been built. That’s the work that has to happen on a different layer.

🎁 Sarah contributed The Actor’s Barre to this year’s Gifts for Actors Giveaway, and she’s clear that it’s one of many tools that do this kind of work. It’s a 20-minute moving meditation that gets you syncing breath, body, and impulse, the layer underneath technique that most training never asks you to touch.

⏰ The Giveaway closes TODAY. Last chance to grab her gift, plus 16 other free gifts from working pros in this industry, and join us at the virtual wrap party tomorrow.
