There’s something special about watching young people find their voice.

Not just being told they’re powerful, gifted or capable, but actually being given the space to stand up, speak, create, perform and see it for themselves.

Had the opportunity to capture a few moments from Southside’s Girls Empowerment Day, and these are some of my favorites.

Confidence being built in real time.

SN: I love taking photos for events. Although I’m one of the beta behind a mic. I can do video/photo pretty good if I do say so my self. Call me a “Creative Athlete”

Black Genius Fest was nothing short of electric. Living in Durham and witnessing Black Genius elevated on stage, alive in the exhibits, and honored in every detail felt powerful, intentional, and deeply rooted. There’s something sacred about seeing our brilliance centered like that.

We have something special here. Our Blackness isn’t just resilience, it’s innovation, artistry, intellect, rhythm, and vision. It creates space. It builds rooms. It opens doors. I truly believe our Blackness will always make room for us.

And what @villageofwisdom is building goes far beyond a single festival. They are nurturing ecosystems where Black children are affirmed, where families are equipped, and where our genius is not only celebrated, it is protected and cultivated. That kind of work shifts culture. It shapes futures. It reminds us that our brilliance has always been here, and when we invest in it together, there is no limit to what can grow.

Celebrating Black Genius with @villageofwisdom on the last day of Black History Month ♥️🖤💚

Black Genius is intrinsic to every Black person. It’s limitless, luminous, full of possibility. @villageofwisdom mission is to build a world that honors and activates individual Black Genius by affirming, protecting, and caring for Black and Brown children through the love and wisdom of their families.

The holidays were nonstop with family, friends, food, celebration. REPEAT. Full hearts. No off switch.

We stay in motion, showing up early, leaving late, making sure our people are good.

We are excited to introduce our 2025 Healthy Communities Fellows!

Get ready to know them!

Meet with our 2025 Healthy Communities Fellow, William J. Educator, Systems Thinker, and Chief Dreamer at Village of Wisdom.

William’s work centers Black families and transforms how educators see and support their students. In just the past six months, Village of Wisdom's evidence-based professional development has reached over 300 students, helping educators recognize and uplift the cultural wealth that Black learners bring into the classroom.

William shows us what it means to build healthy communities by starting with love, listening, and the belief that every child deserves to have the ability to be a part of knowledge co-creation.

Collecting is an artful experience best enjoyed together. Two sets of eyes spot twice the treasure.

Share the journey.
