POV: You asked for new school supplies and heard the classic… “We have school supplies at home.” 😭

Meanwhile, “at home” meant a half-used notebook, three dried-out markers, your sibling’s old binder, and a pencil that had seen better days. 😂

But somehow, we always made it work!

Be honest: what was ALWAYS in your school supply drawer? 👇🏾

Not every school supply fits in a backpack. 🎒✨

Pencils, notebooks, and folders matter—but so do confidence, curiosity, belonging, self-advocacy, and cultural pride.

As we prepare our children for a new school year, let’s make sure they’re equipped with more than what’s on the supply list. 💛

What’s one “invisible school supply” you want your child to carry with them this year?

Black August is a time to honor the people, movements, and moments that have shaped the ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice.

It reminds us that history isn't just something we study—it's something we carry forward.

This month, let's learn together, ask questions, and share stories that help our children understand the legacy they're part of. 🖤

What's one piece of Black history you didn't learn in school?

What if parent-teacher conferences started with what our children do well? 💛

Before the grades, challenges, and areas for improvement, there’s a whole child to see—full of curiosity, creativity, leadership, humor, ideas, and possibility.

Leading with strengths doesn’t mean ignoring opportunities for growth. It means recognizing the genius that’s already there and asking how we can build from it. 🌱

This school year, let’s make sure Black children are seen for who they are, what they bring, and all they can become.

💭 Parents: What’s one strength you want your child’s teacher to recognize?

Sometimes it’s the little things our children do that stay with us the longest. 💛

Their confidence, curiosity, kindness, and the way they show up as themselves are all reminders of the genius already within them.

💭 Parents, what has your child done that has stuck with you? Share your moment in the comments!
