A single body without gesture, a silent presence that can alter the perception of a place. It redraws space around itself, redistributing distances, bending trajectories, turning what was background into contour and what was passage into place.

Soft Monuments inhabits this territory. An informal upholstered seat reimagined as a contemporary presence, at once alien and familiar, recognizable yet resembling nothing known. It recodes monumentality through softness, scale and physical presence. The solid mass and visual weight of an ancient torso are rewritten into a slow, yielding, organic language. Hardness gives way to softness, travertine to textile, distance to proximity. What was once untouchable becomes something that can be approached, touched and inhabited.

The scale exceeds that of the domestic object without reaching that of architecture. The figure is broad, extended, resting within space. Compact and soft at once, its presence is intensified rather than diminished by softness, bringing something monumental into a tactile, almost intimate dimension.

Function remains deliberately ambiguous. Soft Monuments does not offer a function, it allows it. To sit or to lean is not the response to an invitation, but the consequence of a natural disposition of form. Function emerges as an effect, not as a principle. Neither sculpture nor furniture, neither untouchable nor entirely domestic, Soft Monuments exists in the tension between these dimensions. It does not simply occupy space, but recalibrates it.

For Lake Como Design Festival 2026, Soft Monuments is presented with upholstery in Groma, a textile designed by Pastina for BYBORRE, textile partner for this edition.

Introducing the first group of participants in the TAB 2026 Curatorial Exhibition, How Much?

Together, their contributions examine what architecture costs—financially, socially and ecologically—and who ultimately pays.

The exhibition opens on 9 September and will remain on view until 30 November 2026 at Tallinn Linnahall.

Looking (how much?) very much forward to welcoming you to the biennale and its programmes, starting this September.

TAKK is an architecture and design studio based in Barcelona and New York, founded by Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño. The studio’s work critically engages with the integration of ecological frameworks into architectural discourse and spatial production, aiming to develop new material and political imaginaries for the built environment. TAKK operates at the intersection of professional practice and academic research. In 2025, they served as the curators of the Catalan Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. TAKK’s work has received numerous accolades and is part of prominent international museum collections and exhibitions.

Exhibit: 3K room

The spaces we inhabit are carefully designed to be comfortable – in various ways. But what does comfort actually mean in spatial terms, and how does it take material form? The project 3k room explores these questions by examining the relationship betw

incontro 2026 | Isolotto by Olimpia Zagnoli | CGD + Olimpia Zagnoli + Poliart

The protagonists of this fourth edition of “incontro” were @olimpiazagnoli illustrator and multidisciplinary artist, and @poliarteps a company specialized in the processing of expanded polystyrene.

From this “incontro” and this synergy Isolotto was born.

Isolotto, a piece of furniture designed to function as a seat, a bedside table, a chaise lounge for very small people or a modular play element children can arrange and combine to create their own arcipelago.

After being presented in our space all these Isolotto will be donated to the house of @peterpan_odv

Morning read:
The Design Apothecary, Turin on @mix.interiors ✨

AI, biodesign and the home as a living system: ecoLogicStudio proposes a new model of DeepGreen Domesticity with the Design Apothecary in Turin.

Located within the former Mulini Feyles, a 19th-century industrial complex historically linked to the Arte Povera movement, the apartment of Prof Claudia Pasquero and Dr Marco Poletto becomes both home and living laboratory: a space where interior design actively participates in environmental remediation, metabolic production and wellbeing.

Rooted in ecoLogicStudio’s team research into biotechnological urbanism, the project reimagines domestic space as a living ecosystem where humans, machines and microbial life coexist symbiotically. AI-driven environmental intelligence, circular material systems and living biotechnologies converge to create an interior that continuously exchanges matter, energy and information with the city around it.

At the heart of the open-plan environment is a fully operational algae garden composed of 17 laboratory-grade photobioreactors, capturing CO₂ and airborne pollutants while producing oxygen, biomass and edible protein.

Part domestic interior, part biotechnological infrastructure, the Design Apothecary proposes a new aesthetics of coexistence, an architecture that behaves less like a machine for living and more like a living organism itself.
