Tradition becomes very important when you lose your people. Knotts Scary Farm 30+ years. My moms started taking me when I was 13 years old. It’s my favorite Halloween event of the year. I’m thrilled to share it with my people. Pre game at @shanestamales — support your pals, always!
Happy spook season yall! 👻 🧟‍♀️ 🎃

My heart hurts. Like so many outcasts today we grieve an icon who lead the way to the freak castle. I’m not sure if he understood just how transformative it was to see an unapologetically joyful transvestite.

The first time I sat in the Rialto theater in Pasadena for a midnight showing with live cast of RHPS I instantly felt I had found a home. 👄

Today Im not only reminded of the brilliance that was Tim Curry, Im reminded of just how lucky I was to have two moms who fostered my inner freak. Who not only let me fly my freak flag high and proud but encouraged it by making sure I experienced all the things.

When I discovered RHPS I was not 18. But I didn’t need to sneak out, or lie or have a fake ID to get into a showing because they took me, willingly until I crossed that adult threshold. Jackie more than my mom, mearly because she could stay up longer. 😆

I still know every song — but “Sweet Transvestite” every single word, almost 30 years later.

The wild twist? When it came out it flopped. It wasn’t until more misfits found it playing at an art house in nyc at midnight showings. The lesson? Sometimes it takes time to find your people. And boy did he. Lets all be a little more weird — yea?

And that was only one film he gave us little freaks.

Enjoy some photos of the first time I stepped into Dr. Frank and the last time I did, a couple of years ago.

So, if you’ve never seen RHPS, especially a live cast midnight showing or its been a while, join me will you? I’m gonna dust off the lingerie, cape (my original one my mom made me when I was in high school) and stilettos next month in Tim’s honor.

To my mom and Jackie - fuck I miss you, thank you for always indulging in your kid’s dreams so she could be it!

Long live Tim Curry, our chosen patron saint weirdo. 🖤
