I never thought I’d have to make a post like this, but our sweet Pippin needs us. 💔

She’s only 2 years old, and we recently found out that she is in heart failure and needs surgery. She is still just a baby, and it breaks my heart to think that she could have so much life ahead of her and we might not be able to give her the chance she deserves.

Anyone who knows me knows how much my animals mean to me, and Pippin is no exception. She is such a sweet, goofy, loving little girl, and we are absolutely heartbroken and scared right now. We’re doing everything we can to get her the treatment she needs, but the cost is more than we can manage on our own.

If you’re able to donate, even a small amount would help us tremendously. And if you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much. ❤️

Please help us give our girl a chance to come home and keep being Pippin. 🐾💗 LINK IN BIO

Deeply inspired after the @donmarshall72 and @ @erikrosspatterson worldbuilding panel. It was ultimately a writer’s workshop inspired by the works of Tolkien. Within their discussion of lore and land we had two minute writing sprints. So many questions and so many great answers these two knew their stuff.

Also got a chance to meet in person Alan Sisto from the @prancingponypod
I used that podcast as a master class as I read the Silmarillion. It was invaluable. God, I love this stuff.

“Well, I’m back.” …with a special edition focusing on Tolkien Reading Day this year! Tolkien Reading Day is quite possibly one of my three favorite days throughout the year. It’s a time to dive into Tolkien’s works, experience the magic of hearing them read aloud and reading them aloud yourself, and spend moments with the Tolkien community. There’s so many ways to celebrate, and I hope you take some time to do so, whether with yourself or with others! And I hope this edition helps inspire some ways to do that and get you connected with others doing so, too! Let me know down in the comments… who your favorite of Tolkien’s unlikely heroes are and/or what you’re doing for Tolkien Reading Day this year! #tolkien #lotr #tolkienreadingday #jrrtolkien #lordoftherings

I’m always fascinated by what makes it from the book’s pages to the movie script…past the editing suite…and into the final cut.

Of the many things Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy got right, one was this memorable scene from JRR Tolkien’s The Return of the King: The famed war cry speech King Theoden gives at the end of the chapter entitled “The Ride of the Rohirrim.”

Aside from a few lines and details added for cinematic purposes, Jackson and team perfectly captured the dialogue and description. Certainly, the original text jumps off the page, and I’m always delighted when a scene is so well done it does true justice to the author’s vision. I dare say, Tolkien would have been proud.

What volume of Tolkien’s groundbreaking LOTR trilogy will you be reading as we March into Reading? Let me know in the comments. And, tell us what your reaction was to first seeing Theoden’s speech play out on the big screen.

This week, we’ve arrived at the catalyst for events that will take place in The Hunt for Gollum (anticipated release December 2027).

While Gandalf and Aragorn continue to search for Gollum, it is believed that somewhere around T.A. 3017, he slips into Mordor where he is captured by Sauron, brought to Barad-dur and held captive. During his confinement, Sauron tortures Gollum for clues that could lead to the One Ring’s whereabouts.

I suspect the film will linger on the subject of Gollum’s physical torture, as well as his own inner torment, since Serkis is recently quoted as saying the plot will include “a deep psychological exploration of Gollum’s tortured psyche.”

Earlier in this timeframe, circa T.A. 3014, Saruman uses his minion Grima Wormtongue to assert influence over King Theoden as a means to weaken and disarm the realm of Rohan, which stands in his way of establishing dominion in the region. Will Serkis include the inception of Theoden’s rapture in THFG since the event is covered cohesively in The Two Towers? Time will tell if the standalone film will have room to mine this part of the story.

Come back next week when we learn what Gandalf was uncovering leading up to Gollum’s confinement in Mordor. Thereafter, we will delve into what happens when Sauron releases Gollum from Barad-dur.

Beginning in the year 3009 of the Third Age, Gandalf and Aragorn hunt for Gollum during intervals spanning eight long years (through T.A. 3017). Their search covers much ground, through the vales of the Anduin, into Mirkwood which lies within Rhovanion, and to the borders of Mordor.

Also occurring during this time span, in T.A. 3016 (Note: earlier versions of The Tale of Years state 3009 for this event), Elrond sensing growing danger, sends for Arwen to leave Lothlorien and return to Rivendell.

Naturally, for the film, this timeline will be truncated; but it does give us a glimpse of the regions (some heretofore unseen) and potential characters we may encounter, including Dunedain rangers, the Elves of Mirkwood, Lothlorien and Rivendell, as well as Nazgûl and Orcs.

Come back next week when we hit T.A. 3017–a pivotal year in the story’s progress, when Gollum is captured by Sauron.
