🇬🇧 Today, I became a British citizen.

What makes this moment special is that it was never part of my original plan.

As a young academic in Nigeria after completing my Master’s degree, my dream was simply to pursue a PhD in the UK. I applied and applied, receiving more than 60 rejections before eventually receiving one life-changing opportunity: a fully funded PhD scholarship in 2018.

I could never have imagined where that opportunity would lead.

Eight years later, after a journey through a Student Visa, Skilled Worker Visa, Global Talent Visa, and Indefinite Leave to Remain, I stood in a private citizenship ceremony this morning and swore my Oath of Allegiance as a British citizen.

It feels surreal.

Today is not just about a new passport or a new nationality. It is a moment of reflection on the journey, the challenges overcome, the opportunities given, and the many people who helped me along the way.

I am deeply grateful to my supervisors, mentors, managers, colleagues, collaborators, friends, and everyone who believed in me, encouraged me, supported me, recommended me, and opened doors for me.

Most importantly, thank you to my amazing wife, Precious, who has walked every step of this journey with me. Your love, sacrifices, patience, and support have meant more than words can express. Having you beside me today made the moment even more meaningful.

This journey has taught me that sometimes life takes us to places we never planned to go, and gives us blessings we never imagined possible.

From Delta State, Nigeria, to becoming a British citizen, I am reminded that dreams can evolve, opportunities can change lives, and perseverance is often rewarded.

Today, my heart is full🕺❤️😇

Your first 90 days as a Business Analyst are not about proving that you know everything. They are about learning enough to become useful, trusted and confident.

Starting your first BA role can feel overwhelming. New stakeholders, unfamiliar systems, acronyms, meetings and expectations can make you feel like you need to start producing requirements immediately.

Do not rush.

First, understand what the organisation is trying to achieve, why the work matters, who the key stakeholders are, how delivery works and what you are specifically expected to own as the Business Analyst.

Ask questions. Observe how decisions are made. Learn the problem space. Build relationships. Understand the current way of working before trying to change it.

Your goal is not to know everything in your first few weeks. Your goal is to move from anxiety to context, from context to contribution, and from contribution to confidence.
