Most civilian shooting advice focuses on flat zeroes, setting up dead-on at 50 or 100 yards. Canadian Military Manual B-GL-385-001/PT-001 establishes a completely different standard. The Correct Zero Position for a service rifle at 100 m [109 yards] requires shooting with the range dial adjusted to force the Mean Point of Impact to sit exactly 5.0 cm [2.0 inches] ABOVE the point of aim. With the Canadian Armed Forces actively procuring the new Colt Canada C25 and C26 modular assault rifles to replace the legacy C7A2 and C8 fleet, this zeroing logic faces new mechanical variables. When you change barrel lengths and optic heights—moving from an Elcan C79, to an EOTech, to a 1-6x Low Power Variable Optic (LPVO)—your close-range holdovers and long-range dead hold positions shift. All calculations are mapped below using standard issue 5.56 mm C77 (62-grain) ball ammunition. All numbers in this caption have been rounded to the nearest whole number or 0.5. Swipe through to see the exact adjustments across three generations of hardware. 👇 #CanadianForces #C7A2 #RifleZero #TacticalTraining #Ballistics In close quarters, you are managing mechanical offset (height-over-bore). Because your optic sits higher than your barrel, you cannot use a dead hold up close without hitting low on a silhouette target. You must actively apply physical holdovers with your reticle to center your rounds: 🔹 C7A2 + Elcan C79A2 (6.3 cm HOB): At 5 m [5 yards] you must hold your reticle 6.3 cm[2.5”] high above your desired impact point. Because the barrel angles upward aggressively to meet the 100 m [109 yards] profile, that holdover shrinks fast. By 15 m [16 yards], your required holdover is cut down to just 3.5 cm [1”]high. 🔹 C8 + EOTech (6.5 cm HOB): Follows a nearly identical close-range adjustment track. At 5 m [5.4 yards] hold your reticle 6.5 cm [2.5”] high (top of the headbox on a silhouette target). By 25 m [27 yards] your required holdover drops to only 2.0 cm [0.7”] high. This margin is basically bridge of the nose on a silhouette target. 🔹 C25/C26 CMAR + LPVO (7.0 cm HOB): Because modern LPVO mounts push the optic higher off the receiver, your close-in holdover penalty i An infographic detailing the evolution of three service rifles. The ultra-tall riser trend is taking over our feeds, but let’s be real about the only groups who actually need a 2.26”+ mount: 🌌 The Nightfighter Crew: People who passively aim through night vision tubes and physically cannot smash their face against a rifle stock. 🇺🇸 The Freedom Mask Crowd: Anyone forced to shoot while wearing a gas mask or protective face gear with bulky side-filters. 👺 The Sith Lords: The guys running both. If you are clearing chemical labs in pitch blackness while breathing through a ventilator, you actually need the height. The Real Issue for Everyone Else: 💀 Mandible Chin Weld: You are trading a fixed cheek weld against a solid cheekbone for an unstable “chin weld” on a mobile mandible (jawbone). Because your jaw constantly shifts when you move, breathe, or talk, your anchor point is never identical, actively degrading your rapid-fire accuracy and recoil control. 🪨 The Prone Nightmare: If you ever have to drop to the ground and shoot from a prone position, a skyscraper mount is a disaster. You have to crane your neck backward at an unnatural angle just to look through the glass, completely fatiguing your neck muscles within minutes. 🧱 The Barricade Liability: Trying to shoot out of low ports or tight vertical cover becomes a tactical risk. To see through the glass, a towering mount forces you to expose an extra 3 to 4 inches of your head and helmet above cover just to take the shot. 👉 Swipe through the slides above to see the exact holdovers and ballistics penalties you inherit across every major zero when you stack that extra height. #TooDamnHigh #GunMemes #TacticalMemes #ChinWeld #OpricsRiser 25-YARD ZERO HOLDOVERS A 25-yard zero manages your close-range offset well, but a 2.26” riser forces a steep launch angle that completely ruins your mid-range. Past your zero point, the bullet balloons violently upward. By 100 yards, your impact is a massive 3.7 inches HIGH—completely throwing your rounds off target unless you use drastic, unnatural under-holders. #25YardZero #CQB #TacticalTraining #RifleDrills #RedDotSight 36-YARD ZERO HOLDOVERS This zero creates a severe “ballooning” effect with a high riser. At a 10-yard entr A viral gun meme featuring Jimmy McMillan from "The Rent Is Too Damn High" party, edited to say "THAT RED DOT SIGHT IS TOO DAMN HIGH." The image criticizes the modern tactical trend of using ultra-tall 2.26 inch optic risers and skyscraper mounts on AR-15 rifles. The post discusses the negative effects of extreme height over bore on ballistics, holdovers, and cheek weld stability compared to standard lower 1/3 co-witness mounts. It highlights the disadvantages for prone shooting, barricade work, and rapid-fire recoil control for shooters who do not use night vision or gas masks.u

True readiness starts with structure. Moving through the stages of motor learning allows you to transform new movements into smooth, automatic application. #CTOMS #LeaveNothingToChance #ControlTheChaos Step 1 is the Cognitive Phase. You are building a clean foundation by deliberately focusing on the perfect mechanics of a skill, like applying a tourniquet. #Cognitive #SkillDevelopment Step 2 is the Associative Phase. Your rhythm improves as your movements become more fluid with less errors. This is where you comfortably build confidence in a controlled setting. #Associative #Training Step 3 is the Autonomous Phase. The movement pattern is deeply established. Your hands execute the sequence smoothly on autopilot, allowing you to perform under any conditions with no errors. #Autonomous #Mastery Step 4 is Tactical Application. Because your hands know exactly what to do, your mind is able to focus on your surroundings, situational awareness, and make proactive decisions. #Tactical #TCCC #TECC Step 5 is Skill Maintenance. Keeping your skills sharp is easy with short, regular blocks of focused practice to protect your investment and keep your movements smooth. #SkillFade #Maintenance The Blueprint for Physical Skills Mastery title text over a gold emblem of a winged sword and snake. #CTOMSINTHEWILD: Shaking Up the @truenorthrescuechallenge💥 For the first time ever, our team tackled a major high-angle rescue competition using a 6mm micro rope system. We brought our ultra-lightweight tactical rope rescue gear to Penticton, BC for the True North Rescue Challenge. Our goal? Challenge traditional heavy rigging conventions and showcase how a micro rope rescue system optimizes efficiency for technical rescue teams under grueling time limits. By integrating a 6mm line into a high-performance two-tensioned rope system (TTRS), we tested that industrial-grade safety can be achieved with a fraction of the bulk. The CTOMS TRACE System delivers the uncompromising strength needed for demanding industrial rope access and vertical operations, keeping teams agile when speed is critical. • Slide 1 // River Canyon Egress • Slide 2 // Vertical Gorge Ascent & Hauling • Slide 3 // Structural Rigging & Industrial Access • Slide 4 // Mossy Cliffside Casualty Management • Slide 5 // Confined Space & Silo Recovery How would a high-strength 6mm rope rescue system change your team’s vertical access capabilities? 396 Night Guard matched with a Barranti Bruce Nelson beef wrap. I ordered both this Bruce Nelson, and the Carry Confidence CCR. I haven't tried the CCR yet, as this Nelson is really doing most excellent. It carries well at 2:30, extremely comfortable, conceals well, hardly know anything is on the belt. The 396 fits snug, but is easily drawn. I prefer a straight drop, which this is really close. I'll try the CCR soon...but I highly recommend the Nelson model. Will report back on the CCR. highdesertcartridge.com
